Great news that it's over, but I still think Sakho was stupid to take the risk and not get it checked out first. He's certainly paid a heavy price for it.

I think it says more about the paranoia about drugs in sport. Glad its over he will be a big player for us

I'm not sure it's paranoia mate. The conspiracy theory side of me wonders whether they deliberately pick out high profile cases that won't destroy a players career rather than going for the ones with no defense who they would have to ban for a long time.

Toure, Ferdinand now Sakho. I genuinely believe there are players taking harder stuff than fat burners and smoking a joint,  but if they picked up on those it would affect commercial profits through bad publicity, so just give everyone a little reminder by picking out one or two high profile "lesser offenses" ... job done.

Tin foil hat removed, we have seen with the Olympics how they can shut their eyes when it suits, I'm sure that football has it's fair share of drug cheats.

20 years ago maybe even longer than that I sent away for the banned list from the powers that be. Now I was competing locally and sometimes nationally and what i received was a 60 page document. It was impossible for the like of me to understand.
I remember Alan Baxter the winter Olympian he took VICS Synex nasal and he took this for many years but in the Olympics he took the American version and it contained different substances and he ended up losing his medal. It is not as simple as take a pill and become a Champion as the press would suggest.

Which is exactly why I think Sakho was stupid to take anything without clearing it with the club doctor first.

Nah mate, the club would have checked if any of the ingredients were on the banned list... no matter whether they should have been there or not.

The 26-year-old is believed to have not known the composition of the supplement, and has informed the club he acted in good faith.

If he had been eating porridge instead of croissants he wouldn't have needed a fat burner.

IIRC he did not feature much or at all during that first 6 weeks of the season under Brendan; word had it that the manager was not happy at all with his fitness or weight and benched him.

That would explain taking what he took; though I never noticed him being bulky

Mixed feelings about this from day one. O.K. it now transpires the stuff he took wasn't supposed to be on the banned list, but the reality is, it was on the list when he took it, with no excuse to say he didn't know.
Certainly dodged a bullet there, and a lesson learned.  Not sure everyone has been completely truthful about this incident from the start.

So there could still be legal action forthcoming...sounds like this isn't quite over yet (but hopefully it is if smarter heads prevail)
