Huge season ahead for Liverpool Football Club...
      May 27, 2016 10:10:32 am
Next season is going to be huge season for Liverpool Football Club and could decide what influence we have on the Premier League in the next decade.

I think it is fair to say the standard of the league is going to be much higher next season. Mourinho's return, the arrival of Guardiola and Conte, the improvements of managers such as Pochettino, Bilic, Ranieri, Koeman and whoever Everton bring in , plus the ever presence of Wenger at Arsenal.

There is going to be huge amounts spent on players and teams are going to look vastly different to how they finished up this month.

      Where does this leave Liverpool?

We have finished a season that in the end was unsuccessful, two finals reached could have put a different gloss to the season but it wasn't to be. A little more emphasis on the League could have meant a push for the top four but ultimately with injuries we had to prioritise. In the end, the season ended how many would expect when you sack your manager in October, a dead duck.

We do however go into next season with one glaring advantage we didn't have at the start of last season, a world class manager. No matter how much you liked Rodgers, on paper they don't compare. We already have an advantage over United, Chelsea and City next season in that we have had nearly a full season with our manager. He has had a chance to work with the players we already have and knows where we need to improve. A successful summer could really improve our chances next season.

With no European football next season, Top 4 is a must. This club cannot go another season without being in Europe's elite competition. The money brought in directly from participation  in the CL and indirectly though sponsorship along with the players it attracts, is too big to miss out on again. Looking at the values of football clubs and the revenue they create and Liverpool are falling behind. United, Chelsea, Arsenal and City are all ahead with Spurs hot on our heels.

A trophy should also be an aim, this football club has gone too long without adding another trophy to its ranks. Winning is a habit and a trophy would be a great start to move onto bigger and better things.

Already this summer we have started the recruitment process with Matip, Grujic and Karius coming in. However we also need to add proven talent and winners to the team. We all know Klopp can buy young unproven talent and turn them into world class players, but that didn't happen overnight. Time is not a luxury you can afford at Liverpool and more so in the Premier League. Another trophy-less season and mid table finish could be detrimental to LFC in the years to come...

This is like a post that could be rehashed every start of season or everytime a new manager joined...every season seems to be a huge one.
Truth is, since the premier league era, our rivals were always Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and one other.... and every year they have strengthened in comparison to ourselves.
This season will be no different, so while success for other teams outside the big 4 can ebb and flow, i expect us to remain thereabouts until we significantly address the quality of players in our squad relative to our rivals.
A club like LFC should exist to win trophies and naturally aim to win the league title, failing which a top 4 position is a minimum...i dont think that view has ever changed, we have simply not been good enough over the past 20+ years.

So lets again look forward to the new season with all the hope it brings along with it.

      I completely agree.

I just feel that the Premier League took a hammering this season, all the top clubs slipped up and they realise there is too much money as stake to let that happen again.

Include that with the addition of quality players and managers, increased money from broadcasting, the smaller teams all believing they can have season's like Leicester or even get amongst the European places and the PL will be at its strongest ever next season.

I don't think Liverpool can afford another season of mediocrity, the gap might become to big to breach.

I think this season is the most important bar the first season where we dipped out of the CL places, and we didn't rectify it then and now it has become a habit rather than a blip.

I know, it only just ended and we have three new players, Utd have a new manager and Arsenal have spent 30M, just a sign of how crazy this summer will be I'd say

With respect, I wholeheartedly disagree with this. Forget about the domestic Cups, forget about top four, everything at Liverpool from this moment on should be focused solely on winning the league. Not on finishing in the top four, not winning domestic cups that are nice to have but not terribly important in the grand scheme of things, only coming first.

We have the advantage over the other clubs whose managers are either settling in to new clubs and/or new leagues. We don't have the 'distraction' of Europe next season, our manager has had a year to assess where his squad's shortcomings are, so every bit of our focus can be put on the singular goal of winning the league.

Give Mourinho, Conte and Guardiola a year and it will be exponentially more difficult to achieve this. It's now or never and everyone at the club from the tea lady to the groundsman to the players to the manager to the chairman to, most importantly, the fans, need to focus only on first place. If you're not first, you're nowhere and we will not get a better chance of winning the league than next year.

I totally see where you are coming from and I agree. We should be aiming to win the Premier League.

I was looking at Top 4 and a trophy as more of a target to keep pace with the other big clubs, in terms of revenue and players and falling too far behind the pack.

With no European football, I don't see why Klopp wouldn't be telling the players that 1st is our target. It's a lot easier to aim for 1st and finish 4th than aim for fourth and finish 4th.

Like fishpi says as well, we must and should and it's always been the Liverpool way take one game at a time and see where it takes us. There's no other way really, you can only ever influence the game your in at that moment. Just worry what we can do and nobody else.

I'd strongly believe our greatest and most bitter enemy is ourselves. Forget about what others do, we can't do a thing about it. We've been consistently inconsistent in the league and cups. We were flying into the Europa league final and in the final itself we got deflated. The same goes for the PL, there were easily 4 to 5 opportunities where we could have easily surged ahead and claimed 4th spot but being inconsistent and not having the quality of players and determination to do so have failed us again. It is the last hurdle that we have failed to clear time and again and we all know it all boils down to too many average quality of players that we have and the lack of commitment in many of the players. I'm sure Klopp knows all about it and will address these problems by showing those the exit door without any mercy and to bring some players of real quality and fighters.

The Europa Final summed our season up in 90 mins, consistently inconsistent.  I won't lie I'm still gutted about that Europa loss and the League cup to a lesser extent.
Winning two trophies would have been superb for Klopp but let's be honest it would have glossed over a poor showing in the league.
After the Chelsea home loss.in 13/14 I thought our chance for the league had gone pretty much for good or the foreseeable but Leicester have blown that thought to bits. Less midweek football and travelling with the few changes Klopp is yet to make we can have a good go at the league I wouldn't say it if I thought we didn't have a reasonable chance.

We have been busy seeking out players of all positions and I don't hear much about us getting a world class DM. This is where we have been badly lacking for a long time. After Masch left, we have never successfully replaced him, leaving a huge void in midfield and allowed the opposition time and again to bully us. Hope that Klopp hasn't missed that, apart from a left back.

Insane we didn't make at least a profit on him to soften the blow of losing him. Signed him for pretty much £17mill, saw him become one of the best around in that role and sell him for the same price. Genius.

That's one of the key reasons we've lacked success for so long. Muppets in charge who sell our best players and then compound their error by reinvesting the money unwisely, all the while other clubs built around their best players and went on to gain success. The worst thing? We're still repeating the same mistakes.

Luckily for us Jürgen is neither a yes man or a muppet and will do what is best for the club...with the 3rd highest net spend in the league the past 5 years and now somebody by his own admission that has total control we can expect to see some marked differences in the transfer market.

This season Jürgen has reined Can in ...  from running all over the place
The lad is good supporting the attack from the midfield.
When he has defensive cover we will probably see him taking on a run or two in the game again..
Of the current squad I believe he has the potential to take the armband.

We still a Masch style player to sit there and break up the play.
      He was the master.
Lucas could be relied to put a shift in but a new player is certainly needed for that DM role.
