I think I am going to pass on this phone. I went back and forth today and whether to spend the money on the upgrade but it is just too much.

I mean, is it really worth it to spend $599 (that is the phone I would want) on a phone that really wouldn't be such a HUGE upgrade for me? I don't think so.

I am happy about the 3.0 software and about the HOPEFUL upgrades to the networks so I should be good to go for the next year

I figure the next iPhone in another year will be worth getting :)

      Agree with you.

I don't think the price of the new phone, coupled with taking out a new 18 month contract is justified.  I'll keep hold of my current phone and see what comes along in the next 12 months or so.

The only thing that is putting me off, which sound completely pathetic, is that the camera has no flash.

Seriously.  No flash?  I give up, I wish they would just release a complete version.

The camera being upgraded is one of the few reasons I want to buy it.

I never thought I would use the iPhone camera but I did ALL THE DAMN TIME

Are any camera phones great indoors though? Even the ones with the poxy flashes that aren't very powerful?

In any case you can get a small holder for the phone which does have a flash or a light or something.

I've finally succumbed to the temptation of the iphone and will be going into town in the morning to get one.

I think the SE cybershot cameras are good, but the none cybershots are all average.

Worth an extra couple of hundred quid based on that video?

Nah. Doubtful.  I'll wait for the next iPhone.

I finally got my hands on one today from a friend who bought it

Speed upgrade can be noticed pretty well in many things with apps, maps, or email/internet
Compass was not correct but close enough
Video recording was ok but far, far from what I had thought
      Love the space upgrade

Yes. It's hard to think you've survived for so long in life without carrying a compass around isn't it.

      Well done Apple.

Got a 3GS on Friday n the the first thing the bloke in o2 said when he was givin me a demo was that it's got a compass, why? surely the better camera must be more of a selling point.

I'd say the best selling point was probably going to be the video.  A camera at 3 or 2 megapixels isn't a huge difference.  It's not like loads of serious photographers are going to start purchasing it.

And after that the biggest selling point is surely the increased capacity of 32 over 16 Gb?

Would any serious photographers buy any phone for photos, what i was sayin is there is more of a sellin point then the compass

Come on - the first thing they do is compare how long it takes to switch on from off?

I have had my phone for three months and it hasn't been turned off.

And the fella couldn't even type properly anyway. What a gimp.

I've just rang 02 to get the date when I can upgrade.

      19th November 2009.

I'm officially turning this thread into a countdown until I get one. :D

      :lmao:

Ill join the countdown, although mine will be in the first few days of September when me and my girlfriend move in with her Dad in Oregon, USA. Probably going to be joining onto her Dad's family plan so it will work out nice and cheap, just paying for the data plan basically. I can't wait... i want it now!

I'd imagine they will bring a newer iPhone out in July 2010 by the way.

Apparently O2 are going to lose exclusivity on the iPhone:

Orange and T-Mobile to break O2 exclusivity on iPhone

Apple opens up older iPhones to two new networks in six weeks

Apple is poised to open the iPhone 3G to Orange and T-Mobile in a bid to boost sales.

The move is set for as early as September and will end Apple’s two year exclusive deal with O2.

Crucially, the manufacturer will continue to give O2 exclusivity for the new, faster 3GS version, but will grant distribution of the older 3G handset to another network.

Orange and T-Mobile are known to have already begun pitching for the handset. T-Mobile’s call centres have also started telling customers it may stock the iPhone.

Both networks sell the iPhone in several other countries.

The addition of a new network selling the iPhone will break O2’s UK exclusivity on the coveted handset, and will offer a challenge to O2’s prices and tariffs.

Sources said O2 has been furious with the news and is concerned potential rivals will undercut its prices on the older model.

Apple has secured better terms with component suppliers in the Far East after its scale and buying power surged over the last two years.

Many consumers in the UK have been put off the iPhone by what is perceived to be prohibitive pricing from O2, leading many to import iPhones and unlock them for use with other UK operators.

One source at 3 said the network has seen ‘thousands’ of iPhones on its network, which customers have unlocked to use Skype on and to take advantage of its cheap line rental deals.

Apple’s two year partnership with O2 will come to an end in September 2009

I'm surprised they never did it earlier to be honest.

Some money in that though, they must be salivating at the thought.

Vodafone are all loved up with Blackberry so it'll be a while before they jump in. ;)

Orange are decent, I'm with them.

But I get such a sh*t signal round this area. Shame really.

I got sh*t signal when I was with orange, pretty much everywhere.

I'm now with 02, which will make it quite easy to get an iPhone.  Plus I get boss signal and my bill's the same each month.
