Tom was incorrectly included in the list of released players last week and has today signed a new long term contract with the Club.

Liverpool can confirm Tom Brewitt has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

The Reds U21 centre-back penned the deal today to commit his future to Anfield.

Brewitt has been at Liverpoolā€™s Academy since the age of 11 and has progressed through the ranks, captaining the U18s along the way.

The 19-year-old, who has represented England at youth level, was named in the travelling first-team squad for a league fixture with Arsenal at the Emirates on April 4, 2015.

      His player profile.

A local lad, Tom joined Liverpool as an U11 player and is a regular member of the U21 squad.

He was previously captain of the U18s team.

He is a centre-back and an England youth international.

Tom is a committed defender, who possesses a fine positional sense out on the field.

The next instalment in our weekly Meet the Academy series, which seeks to shed further light on the aspiring talents developing their potential at the club's Kirkby youth base, turns the focus on centre-back Tom Brewitt.

A powerful presence in defence with a confident touch and acute positional sense, the local lad captains the Reds' U18s side under Neil Critchley and is gaining further experience this season via the UEFA Youth League.

I hope so. Physics is not that important to be a doctor, Biology and Chemistry are the major subjects.

Tom Brewitt on his bright Liverpool FC future - after being accidentally released!

          16:00, 11 Jul 2016
          By Emma Sanders

Reds defender heartened by JĆ¼rgen Klopp's willingness to blood youth.

HE was accidentally named on Liverpoolā€™s released list earlier this summer but 19-year-old centre-back Tom Brewitt believes his future is bright at Anfield - thanks to JĆ¼rgen Kloppā€™s willingness to blood youth in his first team.

Toxteth-raised Brewitt has been with Liverpoolā€™s academy since the age of 11 and has impressed with his performances in the U21 squad.

The youngster was named in the first team squad for an away fixture against Arsenal in April 2015 and has represented England at youth level.

Despite that release scare - an admin error claimed he was one of the players to leave Anfield this season - he has signed a new long-term contract and is looking forward to the opportunities ahead.

ā€œThe conversations with the club have always been really good and itā€™s always been positive. I knew where I stood with them and the mistake was an admin error more than anything,ā€ said Brewitt.

ā€œIā€™m hoping to progress in the U21s this year and keep working hard and maybe Iā€™ll get an opportunity to impress the gaffer.  The first team had some massive games last year in Europe and reached two finals so it was a successful year.  Everyone seems to be pulling in the same direction and thatā€™s great.  The pathway into the first team is certainly there.ā€

Brewitt admitted Kloppā€™s arrival has given everyone at the academy a boost and they have seen some of their teammates make the jump from the academy to the first team and hope to do the same.

ā€œThere were times last season when Klopp played the youngsters in big games and the good thing for us is that everyone held their own.  It means Klopp will trust and believe in the academy and want to look towards us again because he knows we will deliver.  It gives everyone hope and weā€™re all working hard every day in training to get the opportunity to impress.  Heā€™s given us a chance and a clear pathway but heā€™s not only giving us a chance, heā€™s using the young players in big games.  He wants us to do well and we can see that.ā€

Last season, Klopp gave first team starts to Connor Randall and Cameron Brannagan.  There were also starts for Sheyi Ojo returning from a loan spell at Wolves and Liverpoolā€™s academy Playerā€™s Player of the Year, Brad Smith.

Despite rumours a few youngsters could be leaving Anfield, including promising stars Sergi Canos and Jordon Ibe, Klopp has already shrugged off rumours Brannagan will be leaving.

The Redsā€™ boss is keen to implement the youngsters in his plans and Brewitt is just one of many at the academy hoping to be given an opportunity to impress.

Born in Liverpool, Brewitt played youth football for Liverpool (where he spent 10 years, including serving as captain in the FA Youth Cup) and Middlesbrough.[3][4] In October 2020 Brewitt admitted that when he was a Liverpool youth player he had deliberately injured his teammate Daniel Cleary in training to try and improve his own chances of being picked for the first team.[5][6]

He signed for AFC Fylde in September 2018
