      :)

He can mix it up and pop back to Melwood for an 'injury off' with Studge every now and again.

Hire an average player to find us good players in a league that said average player embarrassed himself in when playing. Good work Liverpool!

Next you'll be telling me Robbie Savage is working as a pundit...

Since when do you have to be a good player to be a good scout?

I don't think it will take me long to write off all our Spanish and Portuguese targets from now on, thanks to him...

We've now got a "nice" team from scouting to shortlisting and dealmaking... wow!

To be fair we've had an awful record before he joined so maybe it will work out alright

Aspas, Alberto, Ilori, Manquillo, Cissokho, Markovic and Moreno  :gt-happyup:

Let's really hope so. Don't really know how we scout. But there's very little chance of a change if the analytics team continues to frame the initial shortlist of players using the same old parameters. That turns scouting into a stats confirmation exercise.

Anyone with knowledge may want to shed some light... perhaps.

Can do no worse than what scouts we have had in last twenty years. Played the game at highest level . And for the record when fit he was a good centre half.

Given our record and some of the tripe we've bought from Portugal and Spain in the last few years I'd stay well away from that region. I mean no offence but a team with the likes of Manquillo, Alberto, Aspas and co deserves to be managed by Paul and Barry Chuckle

He had a poor debut for one club and at that club, even with injury set backs. one Spanish newspaper went on to describe him as having "become Madrid's true leader". He was far from an average player though, injury robbed him of a lot and he was always an intelligent footballer who had a few early off field issues. I believe Daniel Ayala, a former red, said the guy helped him out a lot and incidentally Ayala was arguably the best centre back in the Championship last season.

As a scout, well we'll find out won't we. It's a new career for him, but he speaks Spanish, has a good footballing brain and has shown through his career the ability to teach, be taught and pass on his knowledge. Wouldn't put it past him becoming a good scout, the only thing troublesome on this page is the irrational anger.

Surprised me this news. It's really tricky to put some scope on how a scout will do in relation to their playing days.

I'd be interested to know what contacts he's built up and what sort of credentials got him this post of a scout. Can anyone enlighten us with some facts?

Kenny it is like a good player does not always make a good manager,I don't know how Jonathon Woodgate will go as scout but I suppose time will tell.

to be fair to Jonathon he did spend a lot of his later career watching games rather than playing and he was an excellent defender until his injuries.

I'd agree with that, I thought he was a terrific player stuck in a glass body. God knows what sort of as scout he will make.
