Burton Albion 0-5 Liverpool: In game and Post Match discussion

We begin our EFL Cup quest with a trip to face Championship side Burton Albion at Pirelli Stadium.

Joel Matip makes his competitive Liverpool debut as Sadio Mane returns from injury for the Reds' EFL Cup second-round clash with Burton Albion this evening.

Matip replaces Ragnar Klavan at centre-half, while Mane joins the attack after overcoming the shoulder injury that kept him out of the weekend's trip to Burnley.

Elsewhere, Emre Can and Divock Origi make their first starts of 2016-17 after beginning the first two fixtures of the new campaign on the bench.

Last time out, Albion drew 2-2 at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, coming from a goal down on two occasions and claiming a point thanks to an 88th-minute equaliser.
They had beaten Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 at home in their preceding league game, bouncing back from successive defeats at the beginning of the campaign.
Burton reached the second round of the EFL Cup by overcoming Bury 3-2 after extra-time in a home tie at Pirelli Stadium.

Me too mate, no doubt they will lob a ton of high balls and crosses into our box so this will be the perfect test to see if Matip can be that dominant centre-half we are so desperate for.

Not used to seeing such a strong line up for the early rounds of the cup. Should be a convincing win tonight, but I will settle for 4-1.

Is it to much to hope that he's the new Sami Hyypia? 

Burton haven't been that bad so far this season considering they were in League Two in the 2014/15 season. Two automatic promotions sees them now plying their trade in the Championship. They've scored the most in the league so far (9) but have also conceded the 3rd most (9) which kind of tells you what their strengths and weaknesses are. I've seen some highlights of them this season and they look a fairly attacking team, basically a lower Championship version of us. Their strikers haven't been that great but they've got a vast majority of their goals through the midfield positions from Dyer, Naylor and Irvine who all play tonight.

Glad we've gone for a strong lineup. Main focus should be to keep a clean sheet. I'll take a 1-0 score line over a 10-1 score line. Something to make fans, players and opponents believe we don't leak goals.

It'll be great to see a 4-4-2 of Ings and Sturridge in the last 15-20 mins of the game

As you say at the foot of your post mate 'right attitude' this is key for me also,Go into this game with a blasie attitude and I'll be f**king furious.
I would like to see a thoroughly professional performance from the Reds tonight regardless of the opposition.

Disappointed that Grujic has not started, would have liked to see him in place of Henderson.

Shouldn't be too much pressure on the team in this matchup but that being said, we should be doing this lot about 4 or 5 to 0. They should have nothing for us.

Need to put together a good performance in advance of the game that really, really counts against Spurs at the weekend.

They are very much looking to be the aggressors, and they are committing bodies forward, the space will be there if we look for it.
