I saw that in his post match presser, and thought it a bit odd to be honest.

I kind of understand where he is coming from, but I'm pretty sure I've never heard a manager say anything like that before, and it just seems a bit strange to me.

So even Klopp doesn't think he should be worshipped. Seems simple enough.

It was from the Echo article which Exiled posted in the match thread & Pearce or the other fella mentioned it... that's Klopp for you... ;D

No need to worship Jürgen, until he creates a format to breakdown the 9 man defensive walls we will encounter against the mid table sides.
Then he can walk on water.

Think it's another example of a man with his priorities straight.

Similar to what he said when he joined.. something along the lines of "it doesn't matter if the fans like you when you join, it matters if they like you when you leave."

Good luck getting the Kop to shut up though Jürgen  :D

He mentioned it in both the after match TV interview and then in the press conference so I guess he wanted to make a point about it.

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has explained why he reacted so angrily when the Kop began to sing his name in the second half of Saturday's 4-1 win over Leicester.

Roberto Firmino began and ended the scoring, with goals from Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana in between, while Lucas Leiva's mistake briefly gave the Foxes hope when Jamie Vardy made it 2-1 just before half-time.

And Klopp was upset at the Anfield crowd celebrating with the game still in the balance at 3-1, noting that Vardy was through one-on-one with Simon Mignolet while they were singing.

"Please don't sing my name before the game is decided," he said. "When the Kop started singing it, (Leicester) were alone in front of Simon Mignolet.

"I don't play. It was the same at Arsenal. It is nice but not necessary. I am really on the side of the players. I am responsible for our bad performances, they are responsible for the good performances.

"That is an easy deal. That is what I expect from us, what we did today."

I think he also mentioned it was like celebrating a penalty before you've scored it.  Fair point.  I've seen enough pennos missed in my time and personally I don't celebrate 'getting a pen'.  Some people in the ground go absolute batshit.  Save it until it's been taken and gone in!

I'd hardly regard singing his song anyone putting him up as a 'hero'. Can't imagine you would be stood on the kop telling anyone to pipe down if they sang his name.

Klopp is well off on this one, it's not putting him up on a pedestal to sing his name it's creating an atmosphere and getting behind the team.

Fair play - if you listen he said Migs was 'alone' infront of the Kop... I think he wants the fans to back the players - not the manager.

I like it, sing his name when we win but salute the players and support them when the game is going on. Nothing wrong with that...

It's one thing to raise questions about him off the pitch, no problem with that but in the stadium any songs are good in my book, think Klopp has got this one all wrong but not really something worth losing sleep over.

my take is that he doesnt mind the fans signing his name.  but to do so after the game is done and dusted.  there were still lots of time and anything could happen still

his example regarding celebrating a penalty ahot goal before the shot was taken likens me to think this

in this aspect I agree with him,  till the 90 mins plus stoppage time is over, everything is business

Neither here nor there for me if his name is sung during a game before a game after a game or all 3. However I do believe players can be lifted by the crowd audibly backing them. If we sang some players names who never ever get a mention would it lift them that extra few % that might make a difference?.

And if that what the boss is hinting at then its astute of him to come out with what he's said

Well, now that you've warned him...

I think there are some subtleties in language that get in the way at times with his comments. He is not worrying about fans being complacent, his concerns is with players. He's acknowledged many times the importance of supporter atmosphere, especially at Anfield. He blamed himself for taking part in the Mane goal celebration which then led to the team taking its foot off and Arsenal getting back into the game. He wants to keep the engine going and the crowd's biggest role in that is urging the players forward. Singing for him during the game is "nice" and he even said he'd welcome it after the game, but while/whilst it is still taking place, focus on the players please.

Fans "turning" on him will be entirely based on the results.

The lack of singing at games nowadays is already at an alarmingly low standard, so to stop singing one of the few songs sung would only deepen our lack of atmosphere.

Not the first time he's said that he said the same after either the Chelsea away win or the Man City away win. Someone should have a word  and just tell him to raise his hand, like one of the coaching staff did with Rafa during his very first friendly game in charge against Wrexham.

Or just ask the master at acknowledging the crowd - Kenny Dalglish!!

It's an odd one alright. I could barely hear a word of the commentary of the game, let alone the singing, but at a time when atmosphere at Anfield is an ongoing issue, I don't think anyone should be telling fans to stop singing.

Even so, unless it's disorder related, coaches criticising fans is not the wisest thing to do. It's usually an absolute no-no, so he should be careful exactly how far he goes in doing so. Rodgers can tell him how soon an Anfield crowd can turn from complete admiration of someone in charge to open revolt.

I love this quote from Jürgen - shows a high degree of both understanding and honest humility.

"It is nice but not necessary. I am really on the side of the players. I am responsible for our bad performances, they are responsible for the good performances."

On topic: He probably believes in blinks, scuds, mushes, call 'em what you want - so I get what he's saying... "time enough for countin' when the dealings done".  :P

It's odd how you can't grasp that we have had songs for pretty much all of our managers bar Hodgson. We've always connected to our managers and sang songs for them, it's not a Klopp thing it's something that has gone back for decades.

Maybe educate yourself on that before worrying yourself from the other side of the Atlantic.

Oh ok, sorry to step on your toes from "the other side of the Atlantic". :lmao:

      Get over yourself.

i don't think he finds it difficult to understand that we've had songs for most of our managers. the weird part is how so many of our supporters don't know what Klopp meant by what he said. a lot of fans just get their news and information from newspaper headlines so they didn't see the context to what Klopp said, so they come out with absurd comments like "well if he doesn't like it he can quit" - he never said he didn't like it! what he was saying is that in this moment there are far bigger stars than the manager - and even if that's just a lie, he's trying to change our fractured mentality, trying to encourage us to sing about the players, they need the support most! Jürgen is a f**king winner, he already achieved success in his homeland with his home team and then a team he fell in love with. he doesn't *need* the fans singing his name so he feels loved - he knows how loved he is from day dot. he wants us singing Sturridge songs and Henderson songs and Firmino songs, that's his point. our fanbase stopped making songs for players because they became disenchanted with the league and our business in it, writing players off before they kick a ball because you think he wasn't purchased from the right league for the right amount of money.. he is trying to remind us to stop being know-it-alls and just support our players like the best supporter base in the world like we used to be.
