I kind of get what he is on about but he misunderstands why his name was being sung, it was not complacency on behalf of the fans, just appreciation. I think he needs to be a little bit careful in his comments about the fans, it can very very quickly turn.

Well, now that you've warned him...

I think there are some subtleties in language that get in the way at times with his comments. He is not worrying about fans being complacent, his concerns is with players. He's acknowledged many times the importance of supporter atmosphere, especially at Anfield. He blamed himself for taking part in the Mane goal celebration which then led to the team taking its foot off and Arsenal getting back into the game. He wants to keep the engine going and the crowd's biggest role in that is urging the players forward. Singing for him during the game is "nice" and he even said he'd welcome it after the game, but while/whilst it is still taking place, focus on the players please.

Fans "turning" on him will be entirely based on the results.

I agree with Swab to be honest.

Bit of a daft thing to say. Bit confusing.

Fans are just singing his name in general, that's all.

The lack of singing at games nowadays is already at an alarmingly low standard, so to stop singing one of the few songs sung would only deepen our lack of atmosphere.

Thought he was joking but wasn't sure. Anyway, how many do you need to be ahead for it to be safe to sing, given Migs is in nets? Is 3 ahead enough Jurgi? :)

Not the first time he's said that he said the same after either the Chelsea away win or the Man City away win. Someone should have a word  and just tell him to raise his hand, like one of the coaching staff did with Rafa during his very first friendly game in charge against Wrexham.

Or just ask the master at acknowledging the crowd - Kenny Dalglish!!

It's an odd one alright. I could barely hear a word of the commentary of the game, let alone the singing, but at a time when atmosphere at Anfield is an ongoing issue, I don't think anyone should be telling fans to stop singing.

Even so, unless it's disorder related, coaches criticising fans is not the wisest thing to do. It's usually an absolute no-no, so he should be careful exactly how far he goes in doing so. Rodgers can tell him how soon an Anfield crowd can turn from complete admiration of someone in charge to open revolt.

True.  His touchline reaction to the singing was a bit over the top.

Just don't sing a song praising him until after we win...?

Its not that confusing, he gave a perfect analogy with regards to celebrating a penalty before taking it..?

I love this quote from Jürgen - shows a high degree of both understanding and honest humility.

"It is nice but not necessary. I am really on the side of the players. I am responsible for our bad performances, they are responsible for the good performances."

On topic: He probably believes in blinks, scuds, mushes, call 'em what you want - so I get what he's saying... "time enough for countin' when the dealings done".  :P

It's odd how hard it is for people to grasp what Klopp is saying. I'm starting to worry about that tagline "the most educated football fans in the world".

It's odd how you can't grasp that we have had songs for pretty much all of our managers bar Hodgson. We've always connected to our managers and sang songs for them, it's not a Klopp thing it's something that has gone back for decades.

Maybe educate yourself on that before worrying yourself from the other side of the Atlantic.

i don't think he finds it difficult to understand that we've had songs for most of our managers. the weird part is how so many of our supporters don't know what Klopp meant by what he said. a lot of fans just get their news and information from newspaper headlines so they didn't see the context to what Klopp said, so they come out with absurd comments like "well if he doesn't like it he can quit" - he never said he didn't like it! what he was saying is that in this moment there are far bigger stars than the manager - and even if that's just a lie, he's trying to change our fractured mentality, trying to encourage us to sing about the players, they need the support most! Jürgen is a f**king winner, he already achieved success in his homeland with his home team and then a team he fell in love with. he doesn't *need* the fans singing his name so he feels loved - he knows how loved he is from day dot. he wants us singing Sturridge songs and Henderson songs and Firmino songs, that's his point. our fanbase stopped making songs for players because they became disenchanted with the league and our business in it, writing players off before they kick a ball because you think he wasn't purchased from the right league for the right amount of money.. he is trying to remind us to stop being know-it-alls and just support our players like the best supporter base in the world like we used to be.
