 Daniel Sturridge starts in attack and Philippe Coutinho is named on the bench for Liverpool’s EFL Cup semi-final, first-leg clash with Southampton tonight.

The England striker leads the line alongside Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino at St Mary’s as Jürgen Klopp makes eight changes to the team deployed against Plymouth Argyle last time out.

Meanwhile, Coutinho is back in the matchday squad for the first time since November 26 after injury, taking a place among the substitutes.

James Milner captains the Reds this evening.

Much much stronger line up than I was expecting this time last week.

Love seeing Lucas in there, hopefully he's up for it and impresses. The only worry I have is a lack of creativity in the midfield 3 to get us a goal or more, but hopefully we lock things down in the back for a clean sheet.

Interesting Karius choice. If he plays well, where does Klopp go for Sunday? I don't think Migs has done anything to lose his place, in my opinion.

Hoping for a clean sheet at the very least, let's say 2-0!

How is Lucas still getting a start in midfield?

That is the only place he should be, no where near our defence.

It will be very interesting to see how Lucas performs with a proper first team around him in that role. I think he'll be brilliant so I've probably put the kiss of death on him and I think we'll be walking away from this tie with at least a goal advantage, probably 2.

Very confident looking at the side and how I expect the game to go, let's give ourselves a nice advantage for the return leg!
