Plymouth Argyle 0-1 Liverpool: In game and Post Match discussion
      Jan 18, 2017 06:32:20 pm

      Home Park

      Liverpool squad arrived at Devon

Starting XI: Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Lucas, Moreno, Stewart, Ejaria, Coutinho, Woodburn, Origi, Sturridge

Subs: Mignolet, Klavan, Williams, Ojo, Randall, Wilson, Alves

Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge start for Liverpool in tonight's FA Cup third-round replay against Plymouth Argyle.

Jürgen Klopp has made nine changes to his team to face the League Two side at Home Park, with only Trent Alexander-Arnold and Divock Origi retaining their places from the weekend draw against Manchester United.

Sturridge leads an attack that also includes Coutinho, Origi and Ben Woodburn, and Joe Gomez gets more game time at centre-back.

Lucas Leiva captains the Reds, while Paulo Alves, Jordan Williams and Harry Wilson are notable names from the Academy among the substitutes.

With that front line we should do these easy.

Would be good to see Wilson given a run out.

Now this is what I'm talking about.

      Massive firepower

Hope Plymouth defend with the same tactics as in Anfield

      they'll get a basket full.

Not sure about the defensive side of this team especially with the forward players.

      Lets go boys. YNWA

      He's going to drop that.

Strong side.  Should win this comfortably.

Paulo Alves? Wow. Interested to hear the low down on him.

Sturridge and Coutinho alone should be able to boss this game.

I hope Wilson gets some minutes too, the lad deserves it. He has been brilliant for the U23's and he is a natural on both flanks. Not sure why he hasn't had a look in yet this season.

Looks like a diamond formation to me? Origi and Sturridge up top with Woodburn behind them, playing in his best position (he always played there under Pep Lijnders), looking forward to see how it works out! Happy with the front line, but midfield looks a bit lightweight for me. I'd put Lucas in Stewart's spot and get Klavan in.

Argh! I read somewhere in the pre-match thread about Lucas missing this and i got my hopes up!!

Ah well, one more game from him won't ruin us. Hopefully.

Good to see we are taking this a bit seriously by playing Sturridge but sad to know that in doing so, it means we won't play him in the next PL game again, and we'll go for his lesser equal Firmino. Because he can run. Apparently.

Smash these quickly! I expect a significant HT advantage this time.

He's not featured much for the 23s, two or three games I think off the bench, my guess is he's making up numbers a bit here

Played the first 45 for the 23s against Utd the other night
If I remember he featured for the 18s in the youth cup at Forest too but honestly can't remember much more

Picked him up from Porto I believe if memory serves, attacking mid

Looks like we're trying to get this done early,  should have far too much for them with that front 4

Could be a few goals for the Reds, with the attacking line up, fielded.

Gulp, this is going to be a lot harder for us than when we came up to you. So annoyed I could not get tickets, would love to see countinho, sturridge looked real class last week.  Enjoy the game boys, I know we will, city has been buzzing all day.  Hope Jürgen enjoyed the giant pasty made specially for him, unfortunately it was a gingsters.

although apparently the pitch is quite good, which should suit us. Of course we had a good pitch in the first leg....

I was totally wrong about using experience midfield players. Glad for Stewart and Ejaria. I guess the surprise for me is Ojo on the bench, but obviously Klopp wanted to go strong in the front. I wonder if that is correct about playing 4-4-2 with Woodburn behind Origi and Sturridge. I that that is a better formation in general against a team defending deep.

Agree that it will be nice to get some goals and see Wilson with a debut. But mainly, let's just advance.

Just this match tonight pays 20% of Plymouth's annual running costs.

      Mad that.

Nice, will be interesting to see an Origi and Sturridge front line along with Woodburn, but Coutinho in the Lallana role? :O

Should be a very interesting game, really looking forward to it.

Expecting similar tactics, and rightly so, from Plymouth so we'll get to see how the two sides compare. No idea what the pitch is like, hopefully not too bad and we can run out with a few goals advantage.

Clearly crucial to get that early goal, get one in the first 30 mins and I can see the floodgates open but if they get to half-time all square then it'll give them that extra energy and fight, so let's start well and go about our business properly. I'm sure Jürgen will have emphasised patience and less of the endless crossing into the box even if we do begin to get frustrated.

      COME ON!

Think it will be a diamond rather than our usual 4-3-3.
