Had no option mate, as you know there is record of players carrying on with broken limbs the adrenaline blocks the warning sensations - pain, it can lead to serious complications.

It says something about our transformation when Skrtle and Mignolet stayed strong when we were creaking in that first half. In the first half of the season I would have put both of them as prime candidates to crack under the slightest of pressure. Martin's coolness was fantastic tonight and he has looked as good as he's ever done in a red shirt.

On this, it is very much a tactical decision to avoid putting Sakho in the middle. The middle CB in our back 3 plays the role of the "sweeper", that is the player who defends by cleaning up whatever has come through the rest of the defence. Sakho is very much a front foot defender, which doesn't really suit sweeping and Skrtel has a house with a mortgage in the six yard box and loves a last ditch tackle.
In order for Sakho to play centrally successfully, we'd have to train him to restrain his natural defensive instincts, which, considering they are so valuable in the LCB role, would be entirely counter-productive.
Kolo with his wide range of experience of CB roles was better suited to playing in the middle in that game.

As for the final point, there are so many good candidates for the VC its impossible to say who will get it. I think Skrtel would be a good choice though.

Another imperious display from Martin. Said in the Allen thread that he was second best on the night to Mig's. I've reconsidered that and think Skertel was second best, Allen after that.

Cracking game, again Martin!

Didn't put a foot wrong the whole game.  Stopped as many chances as Mignolet did.  Can see why a good number, as well as me, gave him the MOTM - especially considering the Blackburn incident.

As time goes by he is elevating himself firmly into the "unqualified success" column of the manager who signed him. In terms of pure value or money, he's right up there with the best of them. On a side note, he's now one of my favourite players. I don't expect that'll be particularly significant to martin himself, but it does represent something of a 180 on my part.

If he did it intentionally then he does deserve a ban but I wasn't so sure he did when I watched the match the first time. Bet we won't see Jones banned for 3 games for booting one of our lads nearly into oblivion. This yellow = no further punishment rule is bollocks and needs to be looked at. All I can say is football players are F***ing idiots at times. Absolute no thought process when they do sh*t like this.

I've watched the incident umpteen times now, and I for one am convinced it was accidental. He is going full pelt to try to get a toe on the ball, his momentum carries him forward and he is pushed in the back by a utd player which must have put him off his stride. Quite how he is supposed to intentionally stamp on someone with all that going on, I don't know, but if he did he possesses skills and abilities none of us knew he had!
I await the charge for Atkinson for being totally inept. I will not however hold my breath!

I know we're all Reds on here, and we see the best in our lads most of the time.. But we need to take off the Rose tinted glasses on this one. It was intentional, and it was abit shithouse. If Costa has done the same we'd be hitting the roof, let's be honest. Not the wisest of moves considering he's been playing very, very well over the last few weeks.

Costa did do the same with more intent on Skrtel and never got sanctioned for it.

daft wasnt needed and its not nice to see in football full stop our kids watch these icons they should start behaving like the role models there meant to be. win but win fairly.
