Most of the attraction surrounding LFC is the history, the stories and old names and faces.  LFC is an institution, it would take a hundred years for us mortals to create a club that has the desire and glamour of LFC.  With being fans of this club we do not just support a team, we are part of a cult.  That would not be created in our lifetime by just starting a new club, if you want cheaper tickets or whatever the agenda is why not just watch Tranmere...

      AFC Liverpool 5 Darwen 0
      Published on August 9, 2008

AFC Liverpool kicked off the league season in style with a 5-0 victory over Lancashire opponents Darwen FC.

In an historic day for our new club, the weather was the only disappointment in a thrilling win.

Martin Smeaton opened the scoring for the Reds on 20 minutes after some clever interplay. Darwen also put it into the net but the goal was disallowed for a foul on keeper Paul Willis.

It was 1-0 at the break, but in true Liverpool style, the reds turned it on when kicking towards the Kop end.

Two minutes into the second half Thurston was brought down by the Darwen keeper inside the area. Thurston took the penalty himself and converted comfortably. Shortly afterwards he was on the scoresheet once again to make it three.

The reds had scores of chances. Kevin Poole came close, and Thurston almost bagged a hattrick with a fantastic glancing header that only just crept wide.

It was Wignall who put AFC Liverpool 4-0 up, before substitute James Croxton bagged the fifth.

      Team Lineup:

      1 Paul Willis
      2 Andy Barlow
      3 Martin Crowder
      4 Mark Bloxham
      5 Jay Chandler
      6 James Dever (c)
      7 Ryan Wignall
      8 Ian Johnson
      9 Martin Smeaton
      10 Dean Thurston
      11 Andy McCoy

      12 Craig Cushion
      GK Terry McCormick
      14 James Croxton
      15 Kevin Poole
      16 Ian Sheridan

I went the first league game v Darwen, it was boss. 5-0 was a great result thoroughly deserved. abar 450 attended which is'nt to shabby really considering the sh*te weather.

A lot of traditional Libpool songs got an airing on the mini-Kop. Fields of Anfield road, Poor scouser tommy, Liverbird upon me chest ( with a very passionate Justice verse) and some AFC songs based on old favourites. Al in all a class day out. Only 4 AFC fixtures clash with LFC's home games, even then LFC games will be moved for Sly/setanta. I'll be goin many more matches. Onward an upward AFCL.

very well indeed so far mate. Good sized crowds, much larger than avarege for that tier of footie i'm told. An AFC Kop that sings a mix of old classics and new AFCL songs, some boss banners, Liverpool traditions upheld the right way. 22 Goals in 6 games. and top of the league, although with a game in hand. Most importantly, owned by its supporters.
