I think Degan has only played about 50minutes since joining and that was in pre season

One questions:
Did anyboday think Degen will do a better job than finnan had done? Or Arbeloa does in the squad?

Nope I ain't seen him play properly yet but I have faith in Finnan more than a certain manager Wink I mean what did he do wrong?

Looking forward to see this lad play against Crewe allready. I watched him against Hertha in pre season and he was actually the only one that impressed me very quick and attacking minded with decent ball skills. Even though Arbeloa played well against Stoke I would like to see him be aware that there is competition for his place.

Looking forward to seeing him play too. Seems like he is indeed an attacking fullback and competition for places can only be a good thing.

Has it been confirmed he will play tonight?

IMO I hope he does'nt play tonight, I would much rather see Stephen Darby there instead, he looked very good in pre-season and looks like a very promising talent

Quote from: lfc.tv
Rafael Benitez has revealed that Philipp Degen is likely to face a spell on the sidelines after picking up two broken ribs in the Carling Cup win over Crewe.
The Swiss international had to be replaced by Jamie Carragher on 73 minutes and looked to be in some discomfort after suffering the knock in an innocuous looking challenge.

"He has two broken ribs," said Benitez. "He is very unlucky."

Perhaps I was a bit harsh on him. Hope you're okay soon, lad.

Our new sicknote.  Doesn't look much of a defender.  Insua was a far better defender than him tonight.  However he did make some great runs past Pennant and wanted the ball high up on the pitch.

Pity he looks like he will be a crock.

It looked like he had been shot and he walked around the pitch the slowest I've ever seen anyone at Anfield.  It didn't even look like a particularly physical challenge either.

In the team I wanted to start tonight I had him on the wing as I think he will offer us more as an attacking force then he ever will defensively

Im guessing you went to the game haha.

No matter how weak the challenge was im not suprised he looked like he had been shot, it broke his ribs, extremely painful.

Hopefully he will be back soon

Not too sure how long a couple of broken ribs are, but I would imagine it will be next year.

Early days so I can't really comment on him after 73 minutes.  Kuyt won't know what's hit him though when he sees this fella bombing past him.

I hope he isn't a crock, I really do.

Doctors give football fans the boot as Liverpool star Degen recovers in hospital
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1062355/Doctors-football-fans-boot-Liverpool-star-Degen-recovers-hospital.html

Liverpool defender Philipp Degen has told how he was pestered for autographs while in hospital with a punctured lung following a collision during the 2-1 win over Crewe in the Carling Cup on Tuesday.

Swiss international Degen, 25, said: 'All the other patients recognised me. But the doctors imposed an autographs ban - I was not allowed to sign any.

WTF Huh? Tongue

poor signing we might have got him on a free but how much wages will we have to pay this injury prone player, it would be a mistake to say he is just unlucky he was injured as much at dortmund, he takes the idea of injury prone to a whole new level, shouldnt have signed him would prefer to see stephen darby get a chance

I can see what you mean mate as long as he's not another Sick note or Kewell! he must have something that caught the scout's eye though!

Was on the bench against Atletico.

Only seen a short spell of him, but I hope that he can provide some decent challenge to Arbeloa, who for me has been one of our least effective players.

Hopefully we may be coasting along Saturday and this lad may get a second half appearance in the Premiership under his belt.

I hope he stays fit even if its just to keep the pressure on Arby, expect to see him in the starting eleven at spurs on Wednesday.

Yeah - he's got a good record in the Carling Cup.

60 odd minutes played - 2 broken ribs.

What's everyone going for this Wed?

38 minutes - dislocated shoulder.

Heart As Big As Liverpool

« Reply #176 on: November 14, 2008, 02:50:37 PM »

Quote
The Swiss full-back - who has endured an injury plagued start to his Liverpool career - sustained a metatarsal injury during the Carling Cup defeat and has been ruled out of action for the next month.

With Alvaro Arbeloa suspended for this weekend's trip to Bolton, manager Rafael Benitez is short of options for the right back position at the Reebok with either Jamie Carragher or Stephen Darby now likely to step in.

"It's a pity for Philipp because he hasn't had much luck with injuries so far, but hopefully he can come back from this problem quickly," said Benitez today.

"It's always a problem when you have two players for a position and one of them gets injured, and even more of a problem when the other player is suspended for a game - like Alvaro is this weekend.

"But we have options within the squad and we'll have to decide what we want to do for the game at Bolton."

Martin Skrtel is the only other absentee for the trip to the Reebok, with Benitez reporting no other fresh injury concerns following the midweek setback.

"A lot of players were rested for the game at Tottenham because they had been playing a lot of football, but they will be back this weekend," he added.

"They have looked sharp in training and will benefit from having a week free of competitive football."
Fernando Torres is likely to again get the chance to build up his match fitness after enjoying a one hour run-out against Tottenham on Wednesday.

"Clearly we need to be careful with Fernando and it was always the plan to ease him back in gradually," added Benitez.

"For the type of player he is, it will probably be a couple more weeks before he is back to his very best but the more time he spends on the field the quicker he will get there."

So when we thought we had a replacement for Finnan the reality is that we found a replacement for Kewell to keep the medical staff at Melwood busy (I assume the injury was from kicking Gomes in the face) though I doubt there will be few after what we saw from him will be wanting to see him back playing

This lad hasn't had the best of starts to his Anfield career,he is certainly replacing Harry as the sicknote of the club,If there is a plus side,it means Darby could get a chance to prove himself in the team.

I'm as pissed off as anyone else about how it's going for him at the moment, but he can't be blamed for the series of injuries he's going through.

I hope he makes a quick recovery, and any comparisons to Kewell's sorry stay at the club are quickly forgotten! Get well soon Philipp!
