Brilliant show. Got onto this years ago when it was first shown in the UK.

As a mate of mine said when he first saw it, It's like the Simpsons, only better.

Better than The Simpsons of today, most certainly! Better than The Simpsons of the 90s? Most definitely not!

But yeah I think it's one of the funniest programmes on tv. The bizarre cutaway gags annoy some people but I love them 99% of the time. Especially love this one!

I do like Family Guy but agree that The Simpsons at its best is easily a funnier and better show.

The difference between them is that The Simpsons at it's best you could remember the whole episode because it's story lines and jokes were that great. I think the episode where Homer becomes leader of the union (Last Exit To Springfield) is easily the best episode of any tv series I have ever watched.

With Family Guy there is no emphasis on the story line so you only remember the jokes...most of which don't have anything to do with the story line. Still very funny though!

That's another episode, the above is from Cartoon Wars and the controversial Mohammed bit.

I know, I just love that episode with Butters.
The South Park piss take was brilliant.
      Especially the "epic" fight scene.

Family Guy now, Is what the Simpsons were.  Cutting edge, satirical, anti establishment etc... I love the Simpsons and will always be a fan but, it has slowed down a lot and isnt as relevant today.  I think shows like Family Guy and especially South Park push the boundaries more than Simpsons ever did.

As to the Family Guy storylines, I agree that the first 2 seasons were just cut away jokes and no real story line to follow. That changed starting around the 3rd season...They have a lot of story lines that weave through the episodes. Especially the Stewie and Brian episodes, the "Road To" episodes. Plus they dont do as many cut away scenes now and each episode is a pretty solid storyline or plot. The Star Wars episodes were excellent, and just about every show they make fun of themselves. They dont take themselves too serious and rightly so, its still just a cartoon, a damn funny one, but still a cartoon.

I don't know. Family Guy and South Park are more coarse but I don't think they pushed the boundaries more than The Simpsons. The Simpsons satire throughout the 90s was subtle and brutal plus as a tv show was such a cultural beacon. Not wanting to draw on that George Bush quote but The Simpsons really was the show which pretty much killed off those sweet, perfect as family sitcoms, that just relentlessly ripped the piss out of society!

      Season 1 and 2 were sh*t. I mean really sh*t.
Season was funnier but still wasnt great.
Season 4 onwards it it the funniest programme ever made.

South Park is the funniest adult comedy on TV, apart from Mongrels!

      Quote
Potty-mouthed sociopath Vince is everything Nelson is not. He's a real fox. He's a proper wild animal. He's a red-blooded chicken-eating homicidal predator. As a consequence, some of his eBay feedback is frankly appalling.

But with his simply adorable catchphrase ("Morning cu*ts!"), his loveable, kooky madcap antics (eating his own young; butchering dead women) and his charming penchant for a good ole Cockney sing-a-long ("come on everyone... F**k Chickens!") Vince is every inch the perfect next-door neighbour... Yeah, like F**k he is!

For the most part I love South park, but at times it is hit or miss.  They have a run of 4-5 good episodes then one that sucks.

They did it because the show has run its course, it's been appalling lately. I heard McFarlane wants to end it soon too.
