Third-party Stadium design - How would YOU rate it?
      Sep 29, 2008 12:00:38 am
I was browsing through RAWK, and I saw a thread which intrigued me to say the least. Instead of going on and on about it, I'll show you:

      Quote
      A NEW ALTERNATIVE ANFIELD STADIUM

It has been designed for free by a Liverpool fan ( since 1965 ) for the fans to have an alternative to consider since the nearly all Americans only want Americans to design their buildings wherever they go in the world. It has been designed to seat 75,000.

It would cost less than £300m. The Kop can be all standing (25,000), which would take capacity to 90,000. OR, the stadium costs can be reduced by about £25m if we have 65,000 all seated (to meet FIFA regulations when FIFA World Cup matches are played here) and 75-80,000 when the Kop is all standing.

This is allowed for league matches throughout Europe. Only FIFA (World Cup Games) and the FA Premier League (at the moment) insist on all seats anywhere in the world.

It has 92 VIP boxes above the second tier, and none in the Kop.

There are no ‘tunnel’ entrances / breaks in the lower and middle tiers. They occur only in the top tier and the top area of the Kop, allowing a ‘wall of red sound’ to be imagined.

The Kop is very identifiably the Kop.

I am keen that the other fans of Liverpool are aware that that an alternative design exists, and can make up their own minds whether they think it a far better new Anfield and Kop is possible than the one the Americans want to build.

It may not be steep, but it's certainly large. Plus there's a good roof which would keep the noise inside the stadium more.

This has been around for a while on various forums.

It's really very good when you consider the cost (although will have changed by now due to rising cost of steel, etc.).

My only reservation is the Parrybowl-esqueness (yes that is a word) of it.

I definately think the new owners (please) should get him to draft a couple of different ideas and kick that HKS (Hicks's own firm?) into touch.

Only thing I think would be the stumbling block would be the standing Kop. I'd love terraced stadiums to be brought back but I can't see it very soon sadly.

With the seats in, it's only 65,000. And it doesn't look like it can be expanded on very well without disrupting the layout massively.

The cost is much better but we don't want to sacrifice capacity, and possibly quality to save a few bob! The new owners will stump up whatever we need! ;)

Funny enough! The new stadium is not going to be starting until we get new owners. Who really thinks someone's going to come in and fund the Yanks' ideas? We're going to see more ideas when the ownership changes hands.

I really liked the alternative design that was rejected by the club.

both of them look good to me.

maybe thats just my desperation to get the ball rolling and get a new stadium built, not that that's gonna happen with those two muppets in charge.  >:(

      Looks pretty good
I just hope they keep the name of the kop...the kop :D
Oh, and they significantly increase the capacity to either shorten my season ticket waiting time by a lot or make it easy to get tickets for every home game :D

Looks a bit bland to me.

And I agree with JD, the rejected plans looked the best.

Because I was bored, I thought I'd quickly design my own new stadium  ;D

Ive estimated the capacity to be about 70,000-75,000. Its only a quickie so isn't the most detailed stadiums plans...far from it  8)

Basically, I went for a modern larger revamp of our current stadium, but in a modern dress. Parry stated that planning permission cant be obtained for box stadiums, so I made a bowl stadium, and put box style stands inside it. There is an 20,000 seat Kop which steepens about 2/3 the way up (its looks two tier, but its just one), and a huge Main Stand to the left of it. The main stand would hold about 30,000. Its basically a larger version of our current main stand, with an extra tier and some corporate boxes. To the right of the Kop is the executive stand which would have all the TV stuff, and has 3 sets of executive boxes, and 3 tiers. The bottom 2 tiers are about the height of our current Centenary stand for scale references, and hols about 15,000. Then at the other end, is a smaller stand which holds about 10,000, which is a bigger, but narrower version of the Anfield Road stand.

Ive designed the roofs to be low and downsloping to keep the atmosphere and noise in the ground. The arc I added when messing around. I added glass to the roves of 3 of the 4 stands because the roofs are so low there was some light issues  ;D

      Please do give your thoughts:

Not sure I'm in favour of that Wembley arc thing but not too shabby.

What's the issue with the box stadiums. Why can't they be approved?

I was gonna do an arc over each stand that joined in the corner, bit like the reebok, but I couldnt be bothered as it took ages to do just the one.

Not sure why box stadiums cant be approved. Just Rick Parry said they couldnt. But he knows F**k all so who knows...

Not sure with the basic one. You might be able to with the PRO version...but you have to pay for it. I made a few alterations to my stadium because its Saturday night and Im bored because I have no life.

I realised that the stadium roof was so steep that the top tiers of each stand couldnt see all the pitch  ;D So Ive altered that...and changed the arc so its above the smaller end stand. Which also has a nice big video screen in it.

      That's boss, LFC-LCFC.

I'd love the stadium to be like that, except maybe the arc. Maybe with all four like you said.

Designs looks nice, but I prefer smaller stadiums like Anfield and Highbury. If you look at the Emirates Stadium it's quite sh*te, so keep it at Anfield! 8)

Personally I think the Emirates is a very good stadium.
