Indeed it was mate. Shame that fluke had a big hand in the last frame. But as Dennis said, 'that's snooker'...

Next tournament is the Masters, which is one all the players want to win. If I remember rightly, the Masters isn't a ranking event.

The draw has already been made and in the first round Murphy plays Ding and Fu will play John Higgins. I love the Masters event, it's the top provisional 14 in the world with players ranked 15 and 16 (King and Allen) having to face a wildcard entry. Mark King will play Ricky Walden (wildcard because he won the Shanghai Masters) to determine who'll face Mark Selby (defending champ) in the first round and Mark Allen will face Judd Trump (wildcard entry because he won the qualifying tournament) who is the second wild card to decide who plays in the first round against Ryan Day. It all starts on the 11th of January.

      Draw is:

      Selby v King/Walden
      Day v Allen/Trump
      Higgins v Fu
      Murphy v Ding
      Maguire v Dott
      Hendry v Robertson
      Carter v Ebdon
      O'Sullivan v Perry

If Ronnie is on form, he'll be unstoppable but because Ronnie is the obvious choice I'm gonna stick me neck out and say Ali Carter will win at Wembley. He's been knocking on the door of the last few events and I think it's only a matter of time before he's win a major event and this could be the one despite it not being a ranking event. Only a few weeks away.

I like the Masters as well.

Some decent draws there. Reckon Higgins v Fu will be a good one. Obviously Ronnie against Perry will be good to watch.

I reckon Carter's a good shout mate. You never know which Ronnie is going to turn up.

I don't think you can write off Murphy after this last tournament though. That will be a huge confidence booster and he knows more than anyone that he's been pretty poor leading up to it.

Reckon Selby will feel the pressure, but I reckon he'll get past King or Walden. King isn't right in the head and he might even lose against Walden!

Good to know it's only a round the corner! Looking forward to it.

Well with Walden beating Ronnie in the Shanghai final, it shows he's got the quality to mix it with the best. I'd like to see Judd Trump get through as well, looks a good prospect for the future.

Murphy will be confident, but so will a lot of players I think. Higgins looked in good form in this tournament, Fu reached another final, Carter reaching another semi, Ding with a 147, Maguire was playing well until he came up against Murphy in this one and obviously Ronnie is always confident. You can never write off Hendry either, even if he's in the twilight of his career, he is still a top class player. Perry is getting ever better. And Selby is the defending champion, so he'll be well up for it.

I think the likes of Ebdon, Robertson and Dott are there just to make the numbers up. I don't think those three will cause any danger.

Nah Ebdon's gone mate, since he won the World Champs in 02 he's gone downhill in my opinion. Currently he's provisionally number 16, so another bad ranking tournament could see him outside the top 16 for next season.

Graham Dott is down to number 41  :o

Yeah, I know Ebdon's gone mate, just couldn't resist calling him a sea bird.  ;)

Whatever happened to Dott. Can't believe he's down to 41 now! He looked like he was on the up the other year!

I don't think breaking his wrist, forcing him out of the Grand Prix (I think it was) has helped Dott. He's another who never really built on his World Championship success.

      The Masters started today.

Stephen Maguire came from 5-2 down to beat fellow Scot Graham Dott 6-5. Other match is Ronnie v Joe Perry, currently 5-5 in frames but O'Sullivan is at the table with the score 30-4 to Ronnie.

EDIT: Ronnie has won the final frame to book his place in the next round.

John Higgins against Marco Fu was a great match. John coming out on top in the end, thanks to a fluke.

Day v Allen first four frames were outstanding, at such a quick speed. Just watching the highlights of the other frames on BBC2. Mark Allen won 6-1 and was outstanding, the best player I've seen so far in the Masters this year.

Hendy hasn't looked a shade of what he's capable of either. Then again I rememeber him in the 90s being unstoppable so maybe I'm being a bit unfair on him.

No, I'd agree with you on that mate. That last frame he had more than one opportunity to take advantage and he didn't look himself.

Looking a lot stronger now though. Robertson is looking like he's caving in. Just split all the reds open for Hendry to take advantage.
