      Christmas lights on houses
      Nov 07, 2008 12:29:28 pm
We've all seen them.   Houses plastered in Christmas lights.  Law of averages states that some of you lot also go mad overboard on the lights.

      Anybody going to own up?

More importantly. Anyone reached the pinnacle of Christmas lights?

This fella below (from the US) actually broadcasts the accompanying music by small scale radio so that passing motorists can 'tune in'.  Apparently he does this so his neighbours don't get disturbed by the erm... noise?  Obviously nothing else here could disturb them.

      This is a classic.

Don't put Crimbo lights on the outside of the house, far too much. Next door does though and it looks sickening to be honest. (sorry Phillis)

I'm just wondering why he's got a flashing 'Mercedes Badge' on the front of his house.  :o

That's a bit OTT though isn't it? Typical of Americans, they have to have everything bigger and better than everyone else.

I have lights up outside my house at Christmas, but of course they are very tastefully done  ;D

I think its looks nice on a bleak cold wintry day to see a bit of sparkle and colour, it brightens the place up, some people go a tad too far though  ::)

I can't stand those huge big inflatable santa's and snowmen. they just look so tacky.

There's a house down the road from here that goes over the top a bit. I've actually seen a few easyjet and ryanair trying to land on the roof.

House on our estate already got lights up, they've got one of them train sets along the side of the  house.  I know its just the start cos they usually dress the whole house up !!

I'm putting mine up 2 weeks on Sunday when I've cleaned the house from top to bottom and wrapped me pressies up.  Got a week off, the week after next so plenty of time to get sorted  ;) ;D

now that's sad, shooting the blow up Father Christmas and snowmen, maybe its the lads who need shooting.

Someone pays out good money to bring a little joy to lots of people, and some little pricks shoot them, sad very sad.

My wife love Christmas, I think on the last count, she has 72 things that light up, or move or just sing, our house is like a grotto when there all up.
It takes me about 2 days to get them down for her, and then its takes about a week for the wife to put them up, but she does love it, and so do the kids.

For the scousers (or those who've been to Liverpool around Crimbo time) do you remember the window cleaner dummy they used to dress up in a father christmas suit down in China Town? They've stopped doing it in recent years, boring bas**rds.

Town's Crimbo lights could do with some improving as well. Haven't been changed in years, and as for that tree they have in the middle of town I've seen more decorations on a homeless fella's sleeping bag.

Christmas lights have to be very minimalistic, and just one colour. Otherwise, they look tacky and horrible IMO. I can't stand flashing blue, yellow, red and green flashing about. Looks tacky as F**k.

That house on the way into Cardiff just the other side of the Gabalfa is on. I think they get sponsored though.

My Christmas decorations usually go up about 2-3 weeks before Christmas, any earlier is too early IMO.

I always go on a downer coming up to christmas and moan and be grumpy. But I was thinking today: Maybe that's because of the dark nights. Maybe it's coming out of working a sh*t job all day into darkness after being used to lighter nights. I wa wa wa wa wonder.

EDIT: I still won't be putting lights on or in my house though. Christmas lights that is.

We've finished with the decorating. I think. We don't do the over the top outdoor stuff. Only wreaths with flickering lights on the front three windows. The rest of my block is well lit up, though. Looks nice actually.

Tree is up. It's the biggest we've ever had, though we've never had this much room before so there you go.

I finally got Ronan his home kit, Cas. Ronan 9. Can't wait to see him in it. :)

I will be posting pictures soon.

      Put mine up.

Being born in Europe the thought of walking around on Christmas day in board shorts and putting up lights in 30+ temperatures still feels weird 15 years later.

When I lived in California I didn't come home to NY one Christmas. It was a terrible decision. I was so unhappy with wearing shorts and being warm on Xmas. It was weird like you say.
