Rafa asks Stevie G "Do you think some players need shaking up a bit?"
      Dec 04, 2008 08:22:17 am
If ever there was a man on a mission to win the the League its Stevie Gerrard, not content with trying his heart out in competitive matches he also surprise surprise gives 100% in training.
I also like the way he is trying to help Rafa with his squad rotation even if his methods are a little unorthodox!

      From todays Telegraph

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard flattens Lucas Leiva during Melwood training session

Steven Gerrard’s commitment to the Liverpool cause has never been in doubt, but he nearly added to the club’s injury list with a clattering tackle on Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva.

Just 24 hours after telling Telegraph Sport of his desperation to lift the Premier League trophy , the Liverpool captain certainly showed his team-mates how much he meant what he had said.

"I know I have had a decent career, and done well so far, but I still have so many ambitions. When I see Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and John Terry lifting the Premier League trophy over their head, and I haven't got it, I want it bad.

“And when I get the title, I know what my reaction will be. Simple. I will want another title.''

The two players challenged for a 50-50 ball on a frost-covered pitch at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground, but Lucas fell heavily and clutched his shoulder in agony as manager Rafael Benitez and his medical team ran over to assist him.

Play was briefly halted as the Spanish manager helped Lucas walk to the treatment room.

The Premier league leaders can ill afford any more injuries. Striker Fernando Torres is sidelined for a fortnight with a hamstring strain and defender Martin Skrtel is working towards a return to fitness following the knee injury he suffered against Manchester City in early October.

Fabio Aurelio is also sidelined after picking up a calf muscle strain during his side’s Champions League 1-0 defeat of Marseille at Anfield last week.

Levia needs some toughening up anyway. Train the way you play I reckon.

I know this sounds horrible, but good. The kid need someone to knock him into place and show him how to get stuck in and no better than our skipper. If he gets injured, too bad, but he'll be just that little bit better for it

You got a point, if you go one on one with Stevie G in training every day, everything else should be made easier

Well in Stevie some of the lads need to harden the F**k up. I also love how deeply the media looks into something so minor.

Wont do Lucas any harm. And besides if you pussyfoot around in training you do it in a match so best thing Stevie could have done for the lad. I bet you Stevie Carra and Masch are probably the 3 who train like they play

That kind of attitude makes my blood boil. I don't rate him either, but I don't wish for an injury on ANYONE who plays in Liverpool Red.

So I take it this happened yesterday then!

Lucas was probably just asking could he have the penthouse for weekend.

Stevie thought he was being a bit cheeky. :)

As others have said, Lucas will hopefully learn that he maybe needs to toughen up to play in this league. Something I think Nando has done, especially when it looks like he has put a bit of weight on, in most of the league games this season he has played, he doesn't get beat as much in the air by defenders and also doesn't get knocked over as much as last season.
