FA Cup: Police warning over Liverpool FC vs Preston match
Jan 2 2009
Police are mounting a large scale operation to ensure the FA Cup match between Preston North End and Liverpool passes peacefully.
Officers said genuine fans are welcome to the game, which kicks-off at 17.25 at Preston’s Deepdale ground on Saturday, but warned against violence.
Preston police warned that anyone causing disorder or trying to do so will face arrest.
Chief Inspector Nicky Evans said: "Trouble-makers will be brought to justice and we are prepared to seek banning orders through the courts, making full use of CCTV and video evidence, but hopefully this will not be necessary."
Officers will be conducting random ticket checks to make sure everyone who attends has bought one and to ensure opposing supporters have tickets in the correct areas of the ground. No tickets will be on sale on the day of the match to supporters of either club.
Chief Inspector Evans said: "A ticket tout operation will take place on the day and fans are reminded that it is an offence for an unauthorised person to offer to sell or sell a ticket for a football match such as this."
As part of the policing operation no parking will be allowed in Moor Park Avenue
