Five reds called up to Spain squad
      Feb 06, 2009 01:12:37 pm
      From the Official site.

Five Liverpool players have been named in the Spain squad for next week's friendly international against England in Seville.
Goalkeeper Pepe Reina, full-back Alvaro Arbeloa, midfielders Albert Riera and Xabi Alonso, and striker Fernando Torres have all been included in coach Vicente del Bosque's 22-man squad.

Hope Rafa can have a word with there coach give Torres a rest. But a plus side its shows the quality of our players as Spain are currently ranked number 1 in the world. On the negative side i hate international breaks

I hope none of them get injured on international duty and also another good thing about the international break is that Stevie has time to recover without missing many games .

      Stupid friendlies!

I'm sick of these matches that are utterly pointless when we are coming into the crucial third of the season.

Any injuries, even the most insignificant, can play a major part in the club's progress now. With Gerrard already sidelined for three weeks, an injury to any of these players who are part of our starting XI would be another major setback.

I appreciate that injuries can occur during training or during Liverpool's matches, but this is adding unnecessary risk IMO. Against England as well - I can imagine right now Terry, Ferdinand and their mates keen to stick the boot into Nando.

      Fingers crossed it'll be OK.

Even if i were English i know who i'd go for. More importantly, hope no one else gets injured but with the dirty wankers in the English side you never know. Sad Stevie is out now, would have been good to watch him against Xabi in the centre.

      From Off

Rafa Benitez will wait until the last moment to decide if Fernando Torres and Xabi Alonso are ready to play their third game in a week against Portsmouth.
Alonso picked up a knock during the extra-time defeat to Everton on Wednesday, while his international teammate lasted 101 minutes despite a lack of match sharpness following his hamstring troubles.

Benitez will put his players through their paces late on Friday afternoon before deciding if the pair have recovered sufficiently.

He told his weekly press conference: "Torres is fit but tired. We will see if he can be ready for tomorrow. When you have some players playing a lot of games in a row - normally two games in a week - it is difficult for them to manage. You have to rest players and, if you cannot, there is a big risk.

"It depends on him. We will talk with him in training today. All the players are a little bit tired so we have to make decisions - Torres will be one of the big decisions.

Funny isn't it. I wish Spain played all their internationals in England.

Hope all of our red men only play a small part in this useless game.

It's like when United and Chelsea were in the Champions League. They all had to fly over to Moscow just to play when both are from England ;D.

The bad thing is that managers cannot refuse permission as the useless friendlies are on the FIFA calendar. Why are people always fearing the worst when our lads go on international duty? But this does not mean that i favour these friendlies and i hope and pray that Spain win, with Torres finishing off a move which starts from Reina in goal who throws out the ball to Arby at RB who plays a diagonal ball to Riera at LM who goes past a few players on the left before playing the ball back to Alonso whose cutley chipped pass to Torres is chested down and volleyed into the back of the net without giving terry a glimpse of a chance.

Final Score Prediction= Spainish Liverpool 1- England 0

Just goes to show you how much Liverpool and Rafa are needed in the Spanish setup.

Without Rafa, and without the team, would they get noticed so easily? I doubt it.

In any case, I don't want this game to go ahead. Title > some poxy friendly.

Me neither, with the injury to Gerrard, it would be a real blow for some more of our key players to get injured, especially in a friendly match.

I will actually be supporting Spain (and routing for no injuries). Couldn't give a toss about England. Especially without Gerrard. I don't have any respect for Capello, no matter how good a manager he may be.

Only bothered that the five lads make it back injury free.

Not that bothered about the result or the players performances, but I guess if Torres is made to play a goal would be a welcome boost.
