Selling Konchesky and using Insua as a backup with Aurelio (who will inevitably get injured soon) to a first choice LB bought in the summer seems a good idea.
Signing a good left back is a better idea!

"#lfc have registered 55 Under-21 players for the 2nd half of the PL season, including Emiliano Insua."

      Interesting...

      Any news on this lad?

Thought he was excellent when he first broke into the team but Rafa was forced to play him in far too many games and his formed dipped big time.

Just thinking, like Spearing, Im sure he would benefit and improve under Kenny if given the chance or has something been decided and will he be sold on?

I'm not sure about Insua anymore, no matter what we need to buy a proper LB as a starter, and with Robinson and Johnson able to cover(and even Flanagan) i don't see Insua getting much game time or be needed by the club.

He's been called up for the Argentina's B-national team, for the upcoming friendlies against Poland and Nigeria ...

Hes too slow for our league. He gets caught out too easily.

He should be second choice next season. We can have Robinson as back up, Johnson can play there and if we're badly stuck Agger.

Sell him, Konchesky and Aurelio and buy a top class left back.

Argentina conceded 4, it must have been a horror show at the back.

I agree one hundred percent, in our team that has zero pace he stands out as being slow and as a result I think there are much better options out there

better options in our squad as it is. But we do need a senior LB.

johnson does a job, and we have the young lads, but they should only be backup for a season or 2.

Insua is not slow, you're either lying or blind - take your pick.  There are times when his positioning is questionable but welcome to the world of fullbacks.

He's only 22 :D Still doesn't take away from the fact he's been poor for a while now.

I still remember people wanting to sign Macanuff of Reading after he destroyed Insua over two games

Don't know if the lad's lost a bit of weight since he's been away, but I remember watching him playing for us going along like he was running through treacle. His positioning wasn't just bad either, it was awful.

He really hasn't lost much but the point stands.  He's a 22 year old kid who is capable of good performances (was brilliant when used sparingly in 08/09) and after a season where there were really only 4 or 5 star performers (ie. the whole team underperformed) he gets singled out as not worthy of another shot.  We didn't drop any of our poor performers last year but we still stood by many of them and they came good again.  Combine that with the fact that Insua has age on his side, is HG and club trained and a still two or three years of development ahead of him before he enters his prime, how he's not worthy of even a squad position as understudy to a new LB or even as competition for the new LB is beyond me.

Are people suggesting we buy 2 LBs (in addition to losting Konchesky which looks ever so likely) and then losing Insua instead of just buying 1 LB and keeping Insua around?  Who would you honestly suggest as 2 LB replacements or are you just planning on having one first team left back and then Robinson as their backup, potentially leaving us one injury away from history repeating itself but we let somebody who could help us in that situation walk away for nothing.

No I wasn't suggesting buying two LB's at all, Insua may well be ok backup. That probably leaves Aurelio out of the squad as Robinson looks well able to be 3rd choice cover.

Throught we'd established Aurelio wasn't reallly backup at all.  Either way, Insua isn't slow - he's not lightning quick but there are other slower players than him in our squad.

Get rid of Insua, get rid of Fabio (as much as it pains me) if he can't sort out the injuries. Buy a top quality LB who is primarily good at defending rather than being overly offensive. Use Robinson/ Johnson (if necessary) as back up.

Spot on. Sell Konchesky too though. ;)
