      Mascherano coy on future
      Feb 14, 2009 05:03:20 pm
When asked about his future, Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has refused to commit himself to The Reds.

Argentina captain Mascherano insists he is not aware of any possible offer for him from Spanish clubs.

The untiring midfielder says he is focused on playing well for Rafa Benitez's side, and he has set sights on upsetting Premier League champions Manchester United.

But the former Corinthians star has stated he will see what his options are open to him when the season is over.

Everyone is so quick to commit their future to us when we're sitting in four place, yet when we're finally challenging for the league, players are supposedly not too sure about where they want to be.

No quotes though and with us not playing this weekend there was probably more chance of some bollocks coming out in the media.

But the former Corinthians star has stated he will see what his options are open to him when the season is over.

ā€œI have no idea if a Spanish team want me,ā€ Mascherano told As.

ā€œIā€™m just focused on having a good season with Liverpool and then we will see.ā€

The Reds remain genuine title contenders despite a dip in form in January, and the Argentinian said: ā€œFor sure we have been struggling recently, but itā€™s been in a while since we have been fighting for the title, and at the moment we are second.

ā€œAnd we still have to play Manchester United. This year we have won the important games.ā€

The Reds are due to face Real Madrid in the Champions Leagueā€™s last 16, and the former West Ham ace is aware that Juande Ramos has brought his defensive discipline to the Spanish capital.

He said: ā€œMadrid are Madrid, and they are always hard to beat. The truth is that at the moment we have the same style of football.

ā€œMadrid have improved defensively under Juande and they have become a much more solid side.

ā€œBesides, from the back to the attack they have an excellent squad.

ā€œItā€™s going to be a very tight knock-out stage, with a narrow result.ā€

This is posted as if it were a suprise. It's a rareity that football players dedicated their whole careers to one club, so I don't see the significance of this. Story out of nothing.

Why would he leave? He's first team and plays games for a team that's challenging in Europe and in the domestic league. I don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon.

Well its been a very slow week for liverpool in the press this week, what with scolari getting sacked and the international friendlys.
Its been nice not reading anything negative about the club for a change ,boardroom sqaubles/rafas contract/stadium issues e.t.c e.t.c.but you can bet any money you like that more and more of these stories about player unrest/contract issues will apear from now until the 14th of march when we play that lot from down the east lancs road.It happens every year.

Every day the newspapers start with blank back pages that need filling. On slow news days, this type of story makes it. Having said that, if any player publicly doubts his commitment to the club he should be shown the door. Some have left for lotsa lire or been enticed by the thought of warming Real Madrids subs bench, but I cannot think of anyone who has gone on to bigger and better things.

Well it seems it was a long time ago when I made this topic.

And Mascherano's future is STILL undecided.
Do you all still think this is 'stupid' , 'bullshit' , 'rubbish' and 'bollocks' ?

Well, I'm certainly concerned about this.

As he was undecided as far back as Feb it's obvious now that even then Messi was putting in his 5 p's worth for him to go to Barca, I don't think they will get him this season but at the end of this season, who knows, he'll probably go. This season he owes Rafa, if for nothing else than rescuing him from WHU at a time when he was going nowhere, where were Barca then.

I don't know why some players are so mum on their futures.

Is Liverpool a nothing/smaller club compared to Real or Barcelona?
No, we aren't. We've won 18 league titles, 5 European cups and other countless trophies. We are still England's most successful team and there are tons of other players who would do anything to be part of this.
Hello, we just beat Real Madrid 5-0 on aggregate last season and also beaten Barca at the Nou Camp on road to the Athens final.

So, just come out and stay committed or at least come out and say what you want!

Look its as simple as, he either wants to play for us or he doesn't
Sell him for the Ā£50m that Rafa said he wouldn't sell him for and kick him up the arse as he drags his case down annie road.
The same applies to Alsono and Ā£35m for him, Rafa could do some serious damage with Ā£85m in the next month.
I'm f***in sick to the back teeth of all this "are they aren't they".
HELLO this is LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB

Let all the other staunch and loyal giants at our great club be an example, and step up and put pen to paper like they have recently.
All staff should be in 110% or out, there is simple no place for all this pissing about.

Spew it because the f***in pair of you are trying my patience!!

As our man says he started this thread in mid February and it's still going strong for no other reason than the player will not make the right noises concerning his commitment to LFC. The manager rescued and nurtured him from the anonymity of WHU and how is that faith repaid? read the rags.
