Stupidest Thing That Has Scared You!

What stupid things have scared you? Not proper phobias, but silly things, preferably as a child!

I remembered this morning something very silly that scared me when I was a little boy (like about 5 years old) - a character from a comic book. The comic book was called the Munch Bunch, a group of talking vegetables!

But there was a nasty character in it, an evil highwayman called Dick Turnip, and I remember I was scared of him!

I was also scared of the Cybermen in Doctor Who, the proper 80's ones:

I used to scared of the Yeti in DR Who, the old black and white ones, with Patrick Thornton.

When i was a kid, i used to imagine that big triangular weighing machine every butcher used to have....coming to life, in my dreams silly but true! oh and the loud road cleaning machines.

When I was very little, I was scared of a vase 

Yes, I know, you can laugh. 

This vase had a face of sorts, and I was really frightened of it, it was on the windowsill as you went upstairs, it was an ugly hideous thing, and it used to look at me, and it was horrid, I begged my Mum and Dad to move it but they wouldn't.

There was this song that was played on the radio, don't know the name of the song, but I do know it had a talking/accordion/piano/ or something that sounded like a synthesiser.

It scared me half to death and as it was a time before the TV made an entrance into our house the radio was always on but the song has stayed with me all my life but thankfully I have not heard it since I was a young kid.....

I remember him! That's a good one, Davros was another Dr Who character who scared me as a kid - don't know why my parents let me watch it TBH!

I used to be scared of going swimming. Not even just in the sea either, in any pool. I think it all came from my fear of sharks (I f**king hate sharks!!!!! ) and when I was younger I just could never ever ever get the image of that Jaws cover out of my head. You know the one with the massive shark swimming upwards toward someone. I always just had the mental image of some bloody huge shark just underneath me in the water, but I could never bring myself to look underwater just in case there was!

So when it came to swimming class at school those years ago, I would always 'forget' my swimming trunks or pull a sicky on that day.

Just spent ages trying to remember the name of a kid's game show I used to watch: The Adventure Game.

In it, there was a talking plant that used to get really angry, and it used to freak me out!  And no, I've not lost it, it's mentioned on Wikipedia:

The Rangdo, who was the ruler of planet Arg and referred to as 'grandfather' by the other Argonds. In the first series, his human form was played by Ian Messiter, who appeared as an old professor in a velvet jacket, but in later series he became the only one of the Argonds not to appear as a dragon. In series 2 and 3, he became an aspidistra atop an elegant plant stand; he could move around the room and roared and shook when he was angry (the Rangdo was controlled by Kenny Baker, who was also responsible for R2-D2). Any human meeting the Rangdo had immediately to placate him with a bow or curtsey while uttering the phrase "Gronda!, Gronda!". In the last series, the Rangdo changed into a teapot instead, spouting steam when displeased.

Remember being terrified of it though, it was when the lights were off. Otherwise it didn't bother me at all!

Yeah I seen it when I was like 8 years old and it wonders for me getting over my fear of seagulls 

The image of the guy dead with his eye balls plucked out of his head stills sticks in my mind.

When I was a very young kid, I was very scared of the Children Catcher or whatever you call him on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!

It's embarrassing to admit to now but he did send shivers down my spine at the time.

Children come out to play , standing there with is big nose dressed in black , with his net.

Yeah it is laughable now, but at the time, I thought he'd see me too so I hid behind the couch until he was gone!

Scariest part was when the pr**k hung upside down and peered in to the doorway from above

the first three years that i did open water races i was terrified of the lochness monster, or at least that dinosaur that looks like it... mid way through every race i would get this image of the lochness monster coming to get me. made me swim fast though

No. I'm not kidding. Apparently as a really young kid I would sit there in the living room looking directly into the dining room at this plant, scared, as if it were human and looking at me.

 

I've been on the Space Mountain in Florida, and it was scary, as everything inside is pitch black 

I'm not laughing at you for being scared of a plant Ross, as when I was little I was scared stiff of a vase  it had a kind of 'face' on the side of it and as I walked up the stairs I was convinced it was going to get me, stupid when you think about it now but at the time it was a big deal to me.

Strange isn't it how little things like that can terrify you as a kid. Then you can look back now and think, what?

I remember in my old house I was convinced that every time I went down the stairs there would be something following and so I'd end up running until I got into the living room.

I did that as well but more so when i was walking up the stairs, i thought someone was following me so I'd run as fast as i could but it only made it worse.

When i was a kid i shared a room with my sister, she used to smother the walls in Take That posters. There was one in particular, a life sized poster of Gary Barlow she put on the back of the door. I was sooooo scared of it, especially at night time, i used to think he was watching me. I got up and ripped it off the wall one night, needless to say she wasn't impressed.

I was also scared of 'IT' the clown, my brother made me watch it one night when i was about 7, he told me it wasn't scary, it was about clowns... He forgot to mention it was a clown that killed little children. I wouldn't go up the stairs on my own for about 6 months after, i thought he was waiting for me.

Oh and there was an old wardrobe in my Gran's house that i was petrified of, i don't know why, i would never go near it. I thought some sort of ghost was gonna jump out at me... weird!

CLOWNS...Enough Said!


The dude in the picture below killed 33 Kids in Chicago, USA.  He buried 27 of them in his crawlspace under his house.  Parents used to hire him for Birthday Parties and he was always a clown.  CREEPY!  He looks like a "Killer Clown". He scared the sh*t out of me, even after they caught him. I wouldn't sleep for weeks. Pure raging, sociopath.

I went to a Birthday Party when I was 7-8 years old.  They hired a clown. This was about 18 months or so after he was caught and, I lived 20 minutes from where that psycho lived and buried kids.   I was at the party, everything fine. Eating cake, Ice Cream etc...

The parents hired some poor slob in a Clown Costume. Poor b***ard trying to make some extra cash. He jumps out from behind a wall to surprise the kids and make balloon animals. Half the kids freaked, they had to call parents and the party was ruined. .. I think about it now it's f***in' hilarious, but back then it sent kids to therapy.

I don't blame you ... clowns are very freaky at times (most of the time). The stupidest which sacred me ....or actually startled me was a backpack . In school when I was in fourth grade this girl sitting next to me bad a black backpack , she put it next to me when I was looking the other way and then I turned around to see it I was so startled because for a second I though it was my dog because at that time he was small and black , so I was really freaked out thinking what my dog would be doing in school !

It seems that a lot of things kids are scared of are related to the belief that something is staring at them, waiting for them, or chasing them.

I remember being scared of the stairs that were in my uncle's house. 

I had a dream i was in his house and there was a ghost standing on the set of stairs, and it wouldn't let me go upstairs. And ever since then i refused to go upstairs in his house. 

I'll have to ask my mum for some more things i was scared of, i can't really remember any except for the one i posted.

As a kid, this used to scare me 



I remember having nightmares about this Incredible Hulk and everything!  Also I remember when my brother and I used to stay at my Grans house, she used to leave the bedroom door open for us and leave the light in the hall on, but it used to cause a shadow to hang over our door that looked like the four armed freaky looking woman from Mortal Kombat.  Think her name was Sheba or Sheeva or something....Used to scare the sh*t out of me and I could never sleep.  So silly thinking about it now.

One thing I also used to be scared of and probably still am even though I've never seen one is, tornadoes.    I would literally sh*t myself if I seen one coming at me.  Used to have nightmares about them too.  

I remember having nightmares about Michael Flatley. He used to Irish Dance his way into my bedroom, do a couple of jigs then grab me and strangle me or something............... ..............still sends shivers down my back. Just look at the photo below. Argh!!!

Something I used to be scared of, sounds really stupid. In films, parents who are like changed to be children. They are still an adult but act like a child. really cringy I thought.
