      Best penalty taker ever?
      Mar 13, 2009 12:46:11 pm
Just saw on sky an article about 'The perfect penalty kick'.

Who do you think is the best spot kick taker, Past or Present? For me Phil Neal was hard to beat.

It has to be Le Tissier 47 out of 48 penalties, that is an unbelieveable record.

While at Liverpool, he scored a total of 62 goals, 42 of which were from penalties. During Mølby's time with Liverpool, he only failed to score three times from the penalty spot (penalties against Sheffield Wednesday & QPR in 1985–86 and Chelsea in 1989–90 were saved). His record as a penalty-taker in the top flight is thought to be second only to Matthew Le Tissier. He still holds the club record of the most penalties scored by a Liverpool player.

      Doh. Not 100% sorry

Jan Molby, could place them or power them and scored a hat-trick of penalties once against Coventry!

Not a bad record at all.

      Jan Molby without a doubt.

He was so cool from the spot that whenever he did miss, I was gobsmacked because I was so confident that he'd slot it.

Phil Neal was very good also.

Some of the older more mature members of the forum might remember a guy called Ray Stewart.  He used to play for the hammers, and his technique was simple..........head down and blast it.  I just checked his record on wikipedia, 76 pens scored against 86 taken.  Not a bad record that.

Definitely Jan Molby! Although Phil Neal was great as well.

Danny Murphy scored every pen he took. Aldo only ever missed one pen out of 18 (still gutted about the one he missed).

And Hamman, Cisse, Smicer, Neal, Souness, Rush and A Kennedy of course.  ;)

Le Tissier in general, though not sure he took too many high-pressure ones. Maybe a few to save Soton from relegation, but no major-game ones.

For us, Molby, Neal and Aldo in that order. Murphy was great, too, though only took 8.

Gerrard getting much better. And Kuyt has scored a few massive penatlies for us.

Zidane was as cool as F**k taking them. For us Molby has to have been the best. Thought Owen was a crap pen taker
