Best penalty taker ever?

Molby was number one for me although Gerrard's been doing a great job in the last few years. That penalty against Arsenal to make it 3-2 in the CL was absolute class. Apart from a pen to win a final, it doesn't get any bigger than that.

Outside us, Le Tiss was fantastic. Lampard is the best around right now IMO.

If we're talking LFC only then Molby can't really be looked past 42 scored from 45 is an incredible record and doubt that will ever be beaten for us.

Outside of LFC then Matt Le Tissier was the clear winner and the stats back that up, 47 out of 48 in a career is bordering on perfection so I wont begin to try and make a case for the great dane being better that would simply be biased.

Outside of Stevie G, currently don't have an awful lot of reliable alternatives. Dirk used to be a good back-up, better some would argue, let's hope the likes of Sturridge and Coutinho can be quality back-up and reliable guys for when we may need a penalty shoot out.

Yeah I know he didn't score a pen its just that, that game is all I remember him for really. 2 nil down from 1st leg and we won the 2nd leg 3 nil with him scoring the 3rd in injury time.

Ha ha and yet still scored two important goals that season the Auxerre goal and the goal to put us 2-0 up against the mancs, F***ing their title chances and then followed by Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life, one of THE funniest celebrations I've ever been part of.

Great night that Auxerre game as well, Mike Marsh with a header at the far post to put us 1 up, followed by Jan's pen and then Walter's winner late in the second half. Yeah first season back in Europe that year.

As for outside LFC this still one of the coolest penalties I've seen.

Even though you can't fault Le Tissier from 12 yards if I had to put my life on someone I'd go with Shearer took a lot more pressure kicks than Le Tiss and when he was stood there hand on hips I just expected the net to bulge.

Best penalty I ever saw was Kevin Pressman at Molineaux for Sheffield Wednesday v Wolves, think it was League Cup. Hit it 100 mph into top corner it was that good two goalkeepers wouldn't have saved it.

Outside Liverpool I'd agree with Lampard. Don't think I've seen him miss. He always goes down the middle hard and high and its really difficult to save unless the keeper stays upright.

Would have to say for the Reds there was no better than either Molby or Gary Mac.

Outside of this its got to be Shearer or Le Tissier. If you see how many of Shearer's goals were actually penalties his goalscoring record doesn't actually look that brilliant but suppose they all count at the end of the day!

Le Tiss was an awesome pen taker - he came straight to mind as well as Shearer... Lamps scores a lot, but I wouldnt rank him up with these guys, who were deadly from the spot - as was Batitsuta, who for power and speed was increadable.

In Liverpool I beleive our best ever pen taker in competitive games is Carra, with a 100% record. I read somewhere that when it comes to practive he always lets people know about his record and claims to be the best in the club because if this record...

Carra also took a penalty for England in the World Cup in 2006 and scored against Portugal but unfortunately had to re-take it for taking it too quickly. He missed the re-take.

Molby was the best imo, closely followed by Aldridge and Phil Neal.

Best ever Shearer and LeTissier. Joe Royal was another who I remember rarely missed.... he just hit the ball as hard as he could.

Worst penalty taker Michael Owen, towards the end I just expected him to miss. Some of his penalties were so bad they were embarrassing, although Adam's penalty at Wembley takes some beating for the worst.
