Who will fill the vacant numbers from our current squad?

The only 2 players that deserve the number 7 shirt is either Kuyt or Alonso

My pick though would be Kuyt he works tirelessly and 1 of the very few that plays for his shirt that is on his back

Well in that case then, I wouldn't give it to anyone.  Xabi's number has, and always will be the No.14, it's his signature now.  Dirk is a hard worker, but not worthy of the No.7 shirt.

Skrtel's favourite number is 3, and he wears 3 for the Slovakian national team, so I reckon we should give Skrtel 3, would fit him perfect. Insua's good at 22, it loooks good on his shirt at the very least, and also I believe a fullback's number for me? As for 7, I'd have David Silva donning that shirt, he wont let us down for a second. Then again, we could have Albiol wearing 6 when he comes maybe no?

because he has grown into the deep lying striker role, which is the classic no.7 position. He is by far the only player we have worthy of the no. 7. No way should it be Kuyt.

Hey don't judge JAR on his last season for us or on the own goal against Chelsea.  For his first few years he was a top, top player and I don't need to mention his fair share of goals, spectacular as they were.  I think people sometimes forget how good he actually was in his prime based on his below par performances during the last season he was with us.

Yeah it ended badly for Mr Riise but we can't judge 7 years of loyal service on one game or one season. I think John himself realised he was no longer up to the pressure of the Premiership anymore and done the honourable thing by sodding off to Italy.

If Insua can achieve half of what Riise did then he'll of done well to say the least.

Well it's certain number 4 will be up for grabs in the summer as well, which I think will go to Xabi.

It's also possible that the number 1 shirt will be available again if the Cavilieri deal goes through. Reina is the obvious choice but I'm sure he turned it down when Dudek left, so maybe not so obvious.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Skrtel wanted 3 when he came, but it wasn't available, so I can see that going to him.
