      Cards in Semi Finals
      May 07, 2009 06:53:38 pm
Although i shed no tears for mancs missing the final, should UEFA make a ruling on cards in semis that could keep a player out of the Final itself. Of course there could be loads of different circumstances for each player involved, but seems we are most likely to be involved again next year id hate to see anyone miss out through a daft card. A red card , fair enough youre out but to me it seems unfair that you could be the greatest 'sport' in the game and yet you could miss out due to a slip, mistimed tackle or ref mistake

I totally agree with you as it is a highlight of a career to play in a European final and to be denied because of a mistake is very wrong.  And because it can be a once in a lifetime involvement, surely, they have to change the rule especially of two mistakes in two games now.

If you clear the cards then there will be more cheating on the players part in the semi-finals.

That Barca fella was harshly done by and has a case, Alves got a second yellow so tough titty.

Where there is a genuine mistake then it should be looked at.  But let's say Chelsea scored from that free kick when the Barca lad got sent off.  Should we replay the game? No.

It's harsh and everything, but life's a bi*ch and so is football.

I think players missing the final due to bookings must be a bi*ch but it also encourages players to clean up their act in the semi finals.
If you're team is the better footballing side, they shouldn't worry about getting cards too much.
In cases like Abidal's, who done nothing wrong whatsoever you have to think their should be something UEFA could do to overturn the cards.

Don't think this rule should be introduced. It's your own fault for getting booking in earlier rounds. It's highly unlikely all your bookings were errors.

Abidal was hard done by and it's a shame you can't appeal for these things.

As for Fletcher, he should have just let Fabregas go through on goal. There were already 3-0 up, and the game was over. What was the need to attempt a challenge is there was a risk of contact which would result in a red?

Yeah mate, you're probably right. Just seems every time a tackle goes in someones in danger of missing a showpiece game, id love nothing better than UEFA [and refs] to change 'iffy' cards that suspend players from Finals, but will it happen?
