We only had Hicks and Gillett for a few years and it almost ruined our club. They borrowed money from banks and could pay to debt repayments so lost control of LFC. I'm not an expert on Man U's financial situation but from what I understand most of the short term bank debt has been paid by selling shares. All the debt is now long term and loaded on to the club. It looks like the Glazers will be there for years, taking their dividends and other payments. No sign they want to sell up.
I have some sympathy for United fans now, what they are going through could happen to any club.
All these problems because Fergie and the previous owners fell out over who owns a horse.
No it's because he left, and took their years of success with him. They've spent the time since, blowing astronomical amounts of cash on players they don't need or worse, don't even want to be there. Or both.
The latest man in charge is a disciplinarian apparantly, yet has no more control over his mob than the last man did. Or the one before him. Apart from half the squad wanting out, signing OAP's and a bunch of Dutch club rejects is not a formula for success in this League. And if they think it's bad now, just wait until they start their European campaign.
Top half if they're lucky, and they'll want rid of him for that as well. Then the circus starts all over again. I feel as much sympathy for them as they did for us, when we were where they are. Meanwhile, the batteries are back in the clock, and the countdown to the day they officially can't win the league, (and the 10 in a row is reached) has resumed.
