£80 Million for Gerrard, would you take it?

I just think you're a bit of a clown that's all.  And that you don't understand how much Steven Gerrard means to Liverpool FC, not just to the team, but the city & the clubs heritage.

Still think an offer for £500 million would see Gerrard out the door?

I've supported Liverpool for a hell of a long time. Legends come and go but the club will always be there. Gerrard will retire, Liverpool won't.

Gerrard is the world's best player IMO and of course he means a hell of a lot to everything to do with the club.

But even if you are the best player, even if you are the heart of your club every player has their price.

500 million? With that we can be debt free and have enough money to buy 4-5 world class players. I'd accept that offer.

Retiring is different to signing for a new team though.

Again after how much I emphasize that Gerrard is priceless, I'll take 500 million, the money involved there is just too much to refuse. You would be stupid to say no.

As chats said, clears the debt and allows us 4-5 world class players.

I would be distraught if Gerrard didn't end his career here.

At the end of the day no club in the world is going to table a £500 million bid for him. We shouldn't even be discussing this, it feels almost as if we're going against our own? And when I say our own I mean one of the top assets, if not the top asset this club has ever had.

The problem of selling Gerrard for £80 million, like United will find out, will be that everyone knows we have that money so it will be unlikely we will get a world class midfielder for £20M.

To be honest, the money knocking round these days is getting silly.  I think the simple fact is that Liverpool are not a selling club.  Unless forced in to it - we never have and never should sell our best players.

The amount of money is therefore not even an argument IMO.

Am not a sentimental person, but I would say no because am optimistic we will be taken over by a serious investor by then.

So basically, in 5 years time, stevie hangs up his boots and bang goes our 80 mill we could have had. But, we won't need the 80 million, and we will be able to buy quality regardless.

Every player has their price and 80 million is a sh*t load of money, especially for a club who is skint like ours. We may not be able to sign a player as good as Stevie but with 80 million (if it was to go on transfers) could bring in three, maybe four world class players to compensate.

Now we all know how good a player Steven Gerrard is but we'll have to replace him one day whether you like it or not. He won't be here in 10 years still making those lung bursting runs, so we will have to replace him. And no player, not even Stevie, is irreplaceable. Time moves on, players come and go and it's about finding the right player to replace the out-going great.

To me Gerrard is worth more than money, for the amount of times he's pulled us out of trouble. So I would be very reluctant to sell and certainly wouldn't be happy to see him go but as I've already said 80 million quid is a lot than can bring in three or four players to replace one. The maths suggests that it should be a simple decision but because of what Stevie gives to the team I'd still be hard pushed to take 80 million.
