      Torres staying and wanting Villa
      Jun 16, 2009 10:12:18 am
Fernando Torres has urged Liverpool to sign David Villa and recreate the Spanish strike partnership at Anfield.

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea are all in the market for Villa, but Torres wants to see his fello European champion on Merseyside.

"Rafa Benitez makes the signings and I'm sure those who come will improve us," said Torres. "If it was me I would bring David Villa. But that may not be possible.

"We play well together and link up so well. It's a pleasure to play with him.

"I don't know if we are the best partnership in the world but we are the European champions and that is almost the same."

Torres also took the opportunity to dismiss the weekend's preposterous links with a move to Manchester United.

"I don't know anything about United, just that it has been in the newspapers," said Torres.

"Listen, my team is Liverpool and this is very clear to me.

"This club has it all - the history, the prestige, the fans, the organisation.

"It's a big responsibility to give the fans here the success they desire, but the challenge is always exhilarating and this is why I was delighted to sign a new contract."

Well that's the ridiculous United rumours ended.

Interesting one that, I've often read people on here stating that Torres had to change his style of play to suit Villa's, and that he had more donkey-work to do when they played alongside one another. Now Torres comes out and says he loves playing upfront with Villa! :D

Go on then Rafa, make a cheeky bid, you know you want to! ;)

Fairly true I guess, they are both incredible players. I would be over the moon if Villa came to Anfield, whether we will able to get him or not is a different matter though!

Would mean a hell of a re-shuffle in the midfield and style of play though wouldn't it because there's no way you'd leave Villa on the bench every game.

      We talking something like...?

                                 Reina
      Arby/Johnson  Carra    Agger   Aurelio/Insua

      Kuyt     Gerrard     Alonso/Masch      Babel/Riera

                        Torres       Villa

Actually that doesn't look too bad does it?

Could still have Stevie bombing on and feeding Nando and Villa with Alonso or Masch dropping back to fill the gap.

It's a mouth watering idea him and Nando on the same teamsheet but they're talking silly money and with manUre taking an interest the price will go through the roof, the players wishes will take second place and his agents pocket will do the talking.

David villa is the missing piece to the puzzle. We shold be using all our money and money we can raise just to buy him. If he was the only player to come to anfield this summer I would be over the moon.

Where's Benayoun? I think I would actually put Gerrard back on the wing. Seeing we would have Villa and Torres gunning for the goals, Gerrard would strenghten the wing and we would be able to keep Masch and Xabi in the middle.

When I read the news on SSN, I ponder a bit, if this could ever happen. We would win everything next season, everything!

I was the same mate, listened to a lot of people who are much more knowledgeable than me when it comes to other players from other teams/leagues. Then watching his interview after the game, he said he loves hooking up for national duty as it means he gets to play with one of the best strikers in the world. Now he says this....maybe we should put in a bid for Villa.

Torres saying this might mean Villa could favour a move to us over other suitors. Unlikely though as he's stated that he wants to stay in Spain on various occasions.

I think that if he was to come to the Premiership, i think we would be his favoured choice cause we have some of his Spanish mates here plus a Spanish manager. However, he will still be at Valencia next season, in my opinion.

This is dream time isn't it ? the two top strikers probably in the world at the moment playing together week in week out ! i would imagine the other team just looking at our team sheet and quaking in their boots ,how on earth would you try to man mark these two ? both are quick and quite strong ,to get that sort of money we'd have to video all of Drogba's dives and send them to you've been framed !!

The fact that Real is pulling away due to money tells me Villa's boys want an EXTREME amount that comes close to Kaka levels. That is just me though because the reported numbers are high but not "Real pulling out" high, imo

We can't afford anything near that if it IS that high.

If it isn't, get it done as he would be an EXTREMELY valuable asset to us next season

Good to hear nando dispell those ridiculous manure rumours.

I myself would not like to see us go in for Villa for stupid amounts of money. He dose'nt have the desire to play for us and although money talks i hope we refrain from attempting to get him. Although he is an incredible player, i am not so convinced that him and nando have the best of partnerships. We definatley could do with a new striker but one who is happy to sit on the bench. Stevie and Nando partnership to resume to its full potential next season , fingers crossed!

......not that Liverpool even have the kind of money being touted anyway.

I would be amazed if he came. Would be an unbelievable signing but with the big money boys all in for him and us with our well documented financial trouble it's almost impossible to see. But hey we all said that at halh time in istanbul!! I know rafa would prob never go this road but how good would this look?

I think hes going to be 40 odd million and I highly doubt that he is going to come to Liverpool. The money like robbyr said its far too much, but then again if Rafa sees reason to splash out 40 million on this guy if he makes the difference, then gladly I wouldnt mind. I think that Villa will still be saying at Valencia, he is far too expensive considering Real running out of cash and etc not needing another striker.

I think that instead the Villa deal did not go through because we came in and made a bid for Silva, didn't Valencia only want to sell one of them? ;)

As good as how David Villa is, I'm not very sure about having him in Liverpool. He's a class act, no doubt but will he affect the starting 11 and formation? He definitely can't be sitting on the bench every game and neither can Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso , Javier Mascherano and definitely not Steven Gerrard.

Furthermore, I think the Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres partnership is more lethal. Maybe Torres doesn't play alongside Villa often as they are only in the same team at international level. I may be wrong but IF we get Villa we might have to make some changes to the starting 11.

I've only just woke up so I let myself dream slightly what this would mean the end of the draws we should be winning? most certainly, number 19 in the bag? again it would be hard to see what would stop us.

Unfourtunatly unless Villa stated he would go nowhere else but us and was unhappy at Valencia ican't see it happening and if he did it would still cost around 30 mil and while that is good I think we should be investing in youth and RB if we had that sort of money

Gotta disagree with ya there mate, if we have that money i want either Villa or more likely Silva. When we are this close to number 19, we dont need to be spending on youth that will maybe be good enough in future years. We have decent youth already, and apparantly a RB coming too, big signings that are going to make other teams fear us is whats needed.

Villa has stated that his preference is to go to LFC to be with his mate and because of his desire to be coached by the best manager in the universe, his agent is keeping stum while the asking price goes only one way .

We need to also remind Villa that he will be playing in a club with the best fans and the football ground with the best atmosphere, although everybody knows that.

His agent probably gets a cut of the transaction value.

got this feeling that he may be anfield bound!
we have been written of by the press that we are not in the running, but rafa has his contact's at valencia and may be under the radar we sign him.
he has been linked with real, barca, manure, but he could be our's let's hope rafa does the deal as he did with nando.

They can bid what they want Villa has said he will decide where he goes regardless of the money, Valencia cant make him move anywhere so he decides not them. His father was a miner and took him down to the mine to see how bad it was so he is obviously a lad from good working class stock and Chelsea havent got a chance.I dont think the odds are great but if he plays in England he will have a Liverbird on his chest.

I think the S*n reported that as well, didn't they? I opened an article on the net, saw.. 'The S*n reported..' and closed it.
