      Eto'o has City offer

Barca star has "stratospheric" offer to join City

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has revealed Manchester City have made a "stratospheric offer" to striker Samuel Eto'o.

The 28-year-old Cameroon international superstar has just one-year left on his contract with the European champions and is being tipped to leave Camp Nou.

Big-spending City have been linked with virtually ever player going this summer, although they recently recruited Roque Santa Cruz from Blackburn.

However, manager Mark Hughes is far from finished his summer spending and it appears he is determined as ever to add Eto'o to his talented squad.

      Highest paid

Laporta claims City's offer would make Eto'o the highest paid player in world football, a deal which may even eclipse the staggering six-year deal Cristiano Ronaldo recently penned with Real Madrid.

The Barca supremo claims Eto'o wants to stay, but concedes the offer may be too good to reject. He also confirmed the Catalan giants would seek a replacement if the striker departed.

"Eto'o has a stratospheric offer from City, which would convert him into the best paid player in the world," he told Catalan radio station iCat FM.

"It's starting to become clear that he has this monster offer. He wants to stay but an offer like this is very difficult to refuse.

"If Eto'o accepts this stratospheric offer we will have to bring in someone."

That's actually mad. What a waste of money seriously.

Great striker, but no way is he great enough to smash the transfer record or earn the highest wages.

Is Tevez going to sit on the bench again?  :f_tongueincheek:

I've never seen him do anything other than loaf about, looking not very interested and missing sitters, but not looking arsed about it anyway. He'll fit in at Man City then eh?

They think they are building a great team but they are just bringing in money grabbing egotistic cu*ts! These huge egos who will all expect to play week in week out, with a manager already on thin ice! I bet their managerial situation will end like (or worse than) Chelsea's. Except Drogba is the biggest ego in Chelsea, City now have to deal with Eto'o, Robinho, Barry, Santa Cruz and even Tevez thinks he should be the number one player.

Really their looking at the Europa League, of course they won't even have that this season!

      Cheeky you ;)

I imagine them playing a 4-3-3 I suppose? Well their midfield is sh*te and just playing 3 in it, doesn't make sense again.

But wait where does Robinho fit? How about a 4-2-4? Maybe Hughes think that as long as they score more than they concede, they'll win. sh*t, their defence is sh*t.

How they gonna fit all their other strikers into the team:

      Santa Cruz
      Bellamy
      Robinho
      Caicedo
      Benjani
      Vassell
      Jo

And don't forget they're also bidding for Tevez.

Would be funny if they struggled again next season.

Poor Bellamy. Expected to go there and be the star...oh well, i heard he bought a new chipping wedge.

Like Spurs last season. Spent big (not as much as City of course) and still looked like relegation candidates for most of the season.

Don't forget Ched Evans and Valeri Bojinov for strikers.

Not surprisingly, they've got Gareth Barry, Vincent Kompany, Nigel de Jong, Michael Johnson, Dietmar Hamann, Elano, Kelvin Etuhu, and Stephen Ireland kinda just fighting for that 2 centre midfield spots.

Elano could be on his way to Inter if City pull off their Maicon deal.

After what Scolari said about the Chelsea players under his charge, I wouldn't be at all surprised.

If an experienced and recognised manager can't get respect from him team, how's Hughes meant to do it?

This is just one of the problems with some clubs efforts to throw money around in the hope of improving. Chelsea had it with their big names and egos, I'm sure the same will happen with Man City.

They aren't trying to build a team, just buying a bunch of famous faces. I'll be surprised if they improve on what they did last season TBH.

I agree buying any 1 and every 1 is not going to make a Team and if the wages are correct of a whopping 250.000 it will also probably lead to a little unrest from certain players i.e Robhino for sure, I can see it all going tits up at Man Ciity this coming season and the comment about Hughes being out by December will also probably come true Soulless club with no history Pah we'll sh*t em

Eto'o seems to have a brain, according to his agent. ;)

After reading an article yesterday I'm not surprised by this, because Barca's Xavi was listing the quality players they have to challenge for La Liga next season, and Eto'o was one of the ones he mentioned.

      Eto'o stay likely - agent

Striker leaning towards remaining with Spanish club.

Samuel Eto'o is leaning towards rejecting an offer from Manchester City and staying with Barcelona, according to the striker's agent.

Sky Sources understand Premier League club City have lodged a £25million bid for the Cameroon international.

However, Eto'o's agent, Josep Maria Mesalles, claims the attacker is more inclined to remain at Camp Nou for the remainder of his contract, which expires in 2010.

"If there is not a 180-degree turnaround then he will stay with Barcelona," Eto'o's representative told ONA FM.

According to Spanish reports, Eto'o is unhappy with the way that he is seemingly being forced out by Barca and he could decide to stay in a bid to upset the club's plans.

This scenario would then allow him to leave the Spanish giants on a free transfer under the Bosman ruling next summer.
