Seen Mission Impossible last week.
Lot of fun but falls short of the previous McQuarrie ones.
Don't think they'll top Fallout.
Saw Dead Reckoning today. Well worth the money, great fun and includes all the things I love in an action movie.
I also saw Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny today. Now, my expectations were tempered by some humdrum reviews and my brother messaging me that it was a complete mess. (We were both avid Indy fans growing up so a lot rode on this )
I have to say I was very very pleasantly surprised. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was just a joy to see Harrison Ford donning the fedora and whip again but I thought Phoebe Waller Bridge was wonderful as his companion - definitely up there with Karen Allen and Sean Connery in the Indy companion stakes. She was ace. I really liked Mads Mikkelson as the villain - I love him in anything and everything but he held the role of the Indy villain well. Such a palette cleanser from Cate Blanchett's forgettable and quite frankly abysmal Russian villain in Crystal Skull. Toby Jones as well - a true successor to Denholm Elliott's Marcus Brody in the original movies. And the sequence in Greece was vintage Indy - it was great to see him go globetrotting again.
For sure, it's far from perfect - the CGI heavy, de-aged intro sequence didn't quite hit the mark and Boyd Holbrook as Mads's partner in crime was off tone, uncomical and too psychopathic for an Indiana Jones film. It maybe missed Spielberg's seamless, stone skimming storytelling as well. But there's a lot to really like, some of it I love. Well worth the trip to the cinema and a worthy successor to the original trilogy of films and doing enough to flip the wrongs of Crystal Skull.
