While he does have some weaknesses, i hope he stays and more so if Degen doesnt come off. If not though i expect atleast 5 million pounds for him.

According to the Echo today, it's news to the club about Arbeloa wanting to leave Liverpool. Nothing has been mentioned by his agent or Arbeloa himself.

without a doubt he is under rated, i remember the barcelona games, he was magnificent and kept messi quiet for the whole game. Rafa really made a great signing in him and he even went to the euro's which probably would'nt have happened if we did'nt sign him

i hope he stays 'cos he will give degen a v.good fight for his place. But if he stays without his family, he will become homesick and loose his form therefore i would sell him for around 6.5+m.

Not been overly impressed of late.  Right back clearly is a position where we do need some strengthening.  Where was he for both of Atletico's legitimate goals last night?

Covering Carra, who in turn was covering Agger, who in turn was covering Dossena.

Our Tony (me uncle) said last night that he thinks Arbeloa day dreams. It's like he watches the match as a fan then realises he's actually playing and that's why he's so oftenly caught out of position.

So it was all Dossena's fault then?

But both goals came from the middle - with the ball passed out to (their) left wing.  So why was Agger covering Dossena?

Both full backs were poor, not seen anything from Dossena to suggest he'll ever be worth his shirt.

Arbeloa can be a very good player, we've seen some excellent performances since his arrival. But we've also seen some very, very poor play too. He needs to knuckle down and produce the form he's capable of or he'll be out the door.

(At this point CH sits back in his chair, lets out a large sigh and dreams of a right back called Steve Finnan)

What also concerns me is that Arbeloa hasn't really got some proper competition for that position.

I think Arby played with a bit more focus when Finnan was knocking about.

Finnan was consistent for a good few seasons, shame we let him go. as dossena, he didnt have a bad 1st 1/2 last night got forward and put in a couple of decent crosses but other than that, rest of the season, he truly doesnt deserve the honour of our shirt

So why was Agger covering Dossena?

Because he decided to go hoo ray henry down the left, last night Arbeloa went forward very rarely.

As for their goal that stood, Arebloa had to try and make up for Carra's misjudgement so he went and closed Forlan down rather than stay on Simao and let Forlan shoot. That's why he had come inside for the goal that stood.

Blaming Arbeloa for the two Atleti goals is unfair. Both our Center Forwards were to blame.

He wanted to leave Liverpool i think was because of personal reasons. He seems to be getting lotsa yellow cards, doesn't he?

I rather have him stay as he is the best right back we have as i've not seen Degen play before ;D
