      Esteban Cambiasso (Inter Milan)
      Jul 08, 2009 07:49:09 pm

      Internazionale's Esteban Cambiasso to Liverpool?

Liverpool have reportedly lined up Esteban Cambiasso and Mathieu Valbuena as potential reinforcements in case their midfield is weakened by raids from Spain.

Real Madrid have cooled their interest in Xabi Alonso but Barcelona are still very much in the hunt for Anfield holding midfielder, leaving Rafa Benitez very much in need of a contingency plan.

Reports in Spain suggest Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso is their primary target, but the versatile 28-year-old Argentina international is also said to be wanted by Manchester City.

Along with the world and his dog? :D

I haven't a clue what Cambiasso would play like in the Premier League and to be perfectly honest I'd rather not take the risk. Think that's more than likely a side effect of the desire to keep our midfield the way it is.

It would be interesting to see how he would play in our league though. Whenever I've seen him play, he does look like he loves his football.

      Plus he's got a 'go-faster' hair style.

Hmm mixed feelings about this one he can play, but how would he cope with the pace of the Premiership. We knew another Argie who was king sh*t in Italy and Fergie though he could play and resulted in epic failure. I will not mention his name.

Same doubts I have towards Cambiaso plus he is getting on a bit I think he turns 30 this year?!

      28 isn't he?

I know what you mean though mate. That's why I feel it would be interesting to see how he got on here. What I like about him though is his enthusiasm. Of course, players can have loads of that but it has to be backed up with quality. He seems a decent player but I'm not sure how he'd cope with the physical side of things.

I'd rather have Alonso and Masch for obvious reasons really...they are already part of the team...
Cambiasso is a good player though - he plays his socks off - but he is more of a Javier than an Alonso...

We all know it would be harder to replace Alonso than Mascherano. As posted above I see this guy as playing more like Mascherano but with better distribution.

If we lose Masch or Xabi then Cambiasso is a useful replacement (but definitely not a better player than the ones we already have)...

      Reds line up Cambiasso move
Skysports.com understands Liverpool are lining up a move for Inter Milan's Esteban Cambiasso in case they lose either Xabi Alonso or Javier Mascherano.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez is fighting to keep hold of midfield duo Alonso and Mascherano with the pair being strongly linked with moves to Spain.

Big-spending Real Madrid have openly declared their interest in Alonso, while Barcelona have refused to rule out a bid for Mascherano.

Benitez insists the pair will not be leaving Merseyside, but he is thought to be drawing up possible replacements in case he loses one or both of them with Cambiasso thought to be at the top of his wanted list.

Cambiasso has established himself as a key player for Inter since his arrival from Real Madrid in 2004 and Jose Mourinho would be loath to lose him.

Benitez is thought to be a big admirer of Cambiasso and could step up his interest if he loses either of his two midfield stars before the close of the transfer window.

Well i hope we dont lose Masch or Alonso especially if we looking at this guy to replace either one of them.Defiantly not a bad player but for some reason Italian players suffer in the premier league, thinks its a bit too physical and fast paced for them.

Preferably I would look at other midfield targets.

Cambiasso is a vital part of the Inter midfield, I don't see why Mourinho would want to sell him. He's going to be sold at an inflated fee if we want him, and that is certainly wasting our money away considering the fact he'll only have a couple of years in him left. Although he's experienced, he's 28 and I wouldn't want to see us splurging that much money on a single player.

On the other hand, we can have Javi Martinez as another option. Only 22 I think and has made about 100 La Liga appearances. He'll make an able replacement and he's got a much longer, and maybe brighter future ahead of him.

I'd probably agree with you on that actually, not to mention Cambiasso will actually be 29 by the time we get properly into the season.

Then again you could argue that Cambiasso has had great experience of winning titles and also playing in the Champions League.

Harsh, I couldn't think of many better proven players to replace Xabi or Masch tbh. He's a very accomplished player. Hopefully It wont come to that but I'm sure he wouldn't "destroy" our team.

Since Maradonna has been managing them Cambiasso hasn't featured in the side, Even though he's been in form for Inter. Still I'd certainly say he's one of Europes best defensive midfielders.

I agree with him being one of Europe's best defensive midfielders but for me he doesn't play the Alonso role. Mascherano is going nowhere and Javier is a battler, a challenge winner with Alonso being the distributer to the wings. Cambiasso would be no good.

If we lose Masch or Xabi though i'd much rather purchase an experienced player to fill the gap.

Doesn't have to be a pensioner at all but 29 is an acceptable age i think, Makelele was at the top of his game well into his 30's and he was a truly world class defensive midfielder.

I was using Makelele as an example of how age makes no difference when it comes to experience.

Toure has signed a new contract at Barca i believe and Van Der Vaart is a winger and nowhere near Liverpool quality so they're out.

If it came down to it and we were defending a one goal lead in a major final or needing the win for the league title I'd much rather have an experienced head in front of my defence than a youngster who could make a rash and needless challenge which could lead to us conceding.

I have nothing against youngsters at all but if we had to replace Xabi or Masch I'd much rather the money be spent on an established, proven player.

That's just the problem, all the best ones are either signed to new contracts, overpriced or unwilling to move to England.

Anyway, since Masch isn't leaving it is a fairly redundant argument ;)

Whether older or younger, experienced or not experienced, at the end of the day it is up to the players to prove their worth. If they are good enough then they are good. Look at Messi, one of the youngest, but one of the best and one of the more experienced players already.

The equation with age and experience don't work together. If you are one of the best in business then you will rightly be, despite your age. You can be 20 and stand out among the others, or be 30 but still be as sh*te as ever. That's the difference between Dossena and Insua ;)
