      Barry hits back at Benitez

      Barry hits back at Benitez

Gareth Barry has accused Rafa Benitez of a lack of respect after the Liverpool manager questioned the motives behind his move to Manchester City.

The England midfielder left Aston Villa for Eastlands earlier this summer having come close to joining the Anfield outfit last year, only for the deal to fall through.

Barry had previously claimed he was eager to play UEFA Champions League football, but City will have no involvement in continental competition this year, which led to Benitez suggesting his decision was purely financial.

The left-sided ace is adamant that the money on offer from the cash-rich Eastlands outfit did not sway him, and he was more impressed by City's desire to bring him on board as they look to challenge the established hierarchy in English football.

      Wanted

"I found Rafa Benitez's comments a bit disrespectful," Barry told the Daily Telegraph.

"By that stage my decision was made and people should move on. There was genuine interest from Liverpool and I think he's probably just upset I chose City.

"I've been in the Premier League for 10 years, more, and the money I've been paid is phenomenal compared to your average, everyday working man. You live and work away from normal life anyway, so money's not a big factor.

"The difference was that City made me feel wanted. Liverpool had a chance to buy me last season but failed to pay the money, and only found it this year when they knew someone else had reached an agreement."

Barry admitted the collapse of his proposed move to Anfield last summer made his return to Villa Park a trying time and accused the Reds of making 'excuses' over their failure to complete the deal.

      Something big

He added: "There was a feeling of being let down. Excuses were made about things going on behind the scenes and in the boardroom, but I came out of it looking like a bad person.

"It took a long time for me to get back into the squad at Villa afterwards. It was tough to deal with.

"That's why there's nothing better than a club making you feel wanted and getting a deal done in days.

"It's not about money, it's about the chance to be part of something big from the very beginning at a club who really want you."

Silly pr**k. Didn't we offer 16mill? Believe he went to City for 12mill. So we didn't 'only find the money this year'

So glad we didn't get this c**t.

He is coming out with complete sh'te, would he not take his old clubs feeling into consideration, telling them he wants to play Champions League football and then signing for a team that finished below them, its unbelieveable stuff. Whatever he says he can't hide the fact that money was the main driving force behind the deal. Don't expect them to qualify for the Champs League this season either kinda sad because Barry would have being an able replacement for Xabi.

No pressure in challenging is there? The pressure is maintaining a hierarchy!

I think he's probably just upset I chose City.
Not any more, Rafa does not like Prima Donnas.

      money's not a big factor
Yeah right, if you just want a challenge, then f**k off to Newcastle

The difference was that City made me feel wanted. Liverpool had a chance to buy me last season but failed to pay the money, and only found it this year when they knew someone else had reached an agreement.
Self centered tw*t, thanks you've made it clear you are not a LIVERPOOL player, you'd only come for the money, oh sorry, it's not about the money.

maybe he felt he wasn't wanted by us fans, i don't know if he reads forums and other media but alot of us made it clear we didn't rate him (though i personally do) and there was alot of vocal support for Alonso at games.
Wasn't there even chants about how Barry wasn't up to it?

And the way Alonso played last term, maybe he felt he couldn't replace him and that at Lfc there would be too much pressure in general.

I can't believe he was going to be a replacement for Xabi, Barry can not even be mentioned in the same breath as Xabi when it comes to quality. F**k him anyway the Mancs have done us a huge favour and I'm sure Gerrard and co will make him eat humble pie when we face them for having a pop at Rafa.

Was never behind the proposed Barry purchase last year nor Keane.
Couldnt understand either of those fiascos.
The Barry / Alonso thing ended up a complete mess and the next few days will probably be the last chapter of that if Xabi says Ta Ta.

Barry clearly told MO'N that he only wanted to leave for CL football.

Barry wants to pick his lip up before City's pre-season kicks off, can't have the little baby tripping over it and causing himself an injury can we ;)

F*c* off Barry you haven't got a big enough heart to play for us if you choose money over passion. What we have is PRICELESS.

How the F**k can you say "Its not about the MONEY", then say the above quote.  Its not about the money but you managed to refer too "MONEY" 4 TIMES in a 20 second quote.

"You live and work away from normal life anyway, so money's not a big factor."

Really, So your telling us because your so rich and get paid HUGE amounts of money that money is no big deal!.....F**k You. You had Issues at Villa because your a dick!

Shameless Barry. Stop talking. We all know that you just want money. Even you know it.
