How tight are these Mercedes cars? Nice of Mercedes to do a proper launch with lots of images and angles unlike the rest!

And Ferrari's new car also revealed today. I wonder if it can leap frog the Mercedes?

I think if anyone is going to challenge Merc it'll be Ferrari.

Me too. It was a brilliant car they provided last year so they're working from a great basis and if they can up their qualifying performances so they obtain more poles then as seen last year they've got the race pace and a bit more to beat the Silver Arrows. Really looking forward to seeing the McLaren tomorrow. With the Renault engine, it should be the best car Alonso's had in years.

Looking forward to tomorrow as well and there's nothing I'd live more this season than McLaren providing a car that Alonso can trouble the podium with.

I'd love Red Bull to be right in the mix with Mercedes and Ferrari but I feel the Renault engine won't be quite up there but of anything the battle for 3rd should be really interesting this season.

Looks fabulous. Great to see McLaren finally commit to the Papaya orange after years of fans demands and away from the lifeless paranoid dull corporate colours of Ron Dennis's time. Will brighten the whole grid up that car!

I mocked up some versions of the car with blue on the top half of the halo.
Think it would make it even better. Best looking car on the grid as it is though.

Oh yeah I definitely like that blue halo. Ugly thing as it is so they might as well try having a bit of fun.

Like the Ferrari black and gold touch hailing back to another era as well.

What do you make of the McLaren in a technical sense racer?

I think last year it had arguably one of the best chassis out there.
Top 4 at least. Hard to judge with something that hasn't the grunt of the others,
but Alonso's corner speeds were consistently up there.

That said a lot will depend on Renault.
      Said to have 950+ HP.
      Mercedes and Ferrari are 1,000+.

Interesting that Ferrari have copied their Front pillar design for this year.

Hartley completed the second most laps today.

Could this years Honda engine be more reliable than they have been?

I wouldn't be surprised knowing McLaren's luck! It'll be interesting to see how that partnership between Toro Rosso and Honda develops. If it goes well then an exclusive Red Bull partnership could be in the works.

I'm loving Force India's (for however long they will remain Force India that is) more vibrant, deep pink for their livery this year. F1 team's need an identity like the yellow of the B&H Jordan's in the late 90s/early 00s and it's nice to see them fully embrace a distinctive look on behalf of their title sponsor. It'll be fascinating to see if they continue to outperform the richer squads around them this year.

Too early to read into that headline lap by Hamilton? Vandoorne on the hypersofts has let to a lot of social media users crowing about McLaren trying to set fast laps in order to attract a major sponsor which seems an unlikely thing to do considering that I can't remember them ever doing so in the previous few years when they've not had a title sponsor. Journalist James Allen says the car looks very good aerodynamically and that we shouldn't underestimate this car which is encouraging at least.

Please to see teams matching Mercedes for the amount of laps run,
but the Medium pace seems ominous.

Still time in the cars though but that's a warning shot.
They did the same 2 years ago. Ran nothing but Medium. Still fastest.

Given that the car was originally designed for the Honda engine can we be too surprised that they're not getting things in sync? Hopefully they'll have it worked out in the first few races of the season. I wonder if they're having the same problems that happened with Red Bull in pre season testing a few seasons back when they had a chassis that was unforgivable to matters below the bodywork.

BAR there, formerly Tyrrell Racing, who then went on to become Honda Racing, Brawn GP and currently Mercedes GP.

I really liked BAR even though they were a bit of a vanity project for Jacques Villeneuve during their first few years!
