Crikey! 6 tenths of a second it's worth to Red Bull!

Pretty surprised myself. Thing is it's going to favour Red Bull & Ferrari at Azerbajan too.

Hmmm, Lewis didn't seem too optimistic about their chances going into that one. Will be a fascinating weekend I'm sure.

Insane amount of time if they are making that and are still only level with Mercedes.
No wonder Toto wants it shut down.

You don't sit and watch Monaco for it's overtaking opportunities. There is only one real overtaking spot, at the chicane. But there's not a lot they can really do with the circuit layout, it's city centre street furniture, it is what it is. It will never be scrapped.

Leclerc said he hit the wall in an earlier qualifying lap but he got away with it, so bizarrely he wanted to have another go at it late in the session. Monaco might be a great place to gamble in a casino, but if you want to gamble on hitting a tyre barrier, the tyre barrier will usually win. Without him there, all Verstappen had to do was get to the first corner first, then keep it out of the wall to win, which is what he did.

Last time it was there, there was 1 retirement but Hamilton won, so it wasn't boring. This year, there was 2 retirements but Hamilton didn't win, so it was boring. If all the tracks were scrapped just because Hamilton didn't win the last time he turned up, well, there wouldn't be much of a calendar left.

I think your attempts to try recontextualise us saying that all good days for Hamilton equating to a good day for F1 completely miss the point. And all context. I don't know what you're saying. The 2019 GP may not have been blessed with overtaking as expected around Monte Carlo but we still enjoyed the hunt by Verstappen as he stared at Lewis Hamilton's gearbox for a good proportion of that race.

I would never ditch Monaco. I think Martin Brundle made a good point in commentary in saying that the track offers a severe challenge for the driver and ultimately whoever becomes f1 driver must be challenged on all types of circuits. A win around the streets of Monte Carlo is worth 10 victories in Abu Dhabi (which is an awful stain on the f1 calendar).

The specatcle in Monaco is on the Saturday.

To see who can risk the most and get pole.

Not sure about Leclerc's pole. Part of me thinks he should have had his time scrubbed for bringing out the red flag.
As it was, his crash kept him on pole (Verstappen was up on his lap at the time).

The question of "Should F1 race at Monaco?"
Absolutely, but it does highlight that the cars have gotten too big.

Agree it's Racer and FMS. You simply cannot have an F1 calender without Monaco for me.

Saturday is where it's at as Racer says and also agree in the cars. Far too big and complicated for me.

I love it too. As we saw in quali, it seems to catch a lot of drivers out and as we see, when you make a mistake around Baku, that's more or less it. I think it's down to the nature of the circuit. It's not consistently narrow and intricate like Monaco. It's a blend of super speedy straights punctured by tricky, slow and tight sections. It must play havoc with the rhythm and flow of an f1 driver's mindset!

Interesting. Rumblings of Bottas not even making the end of the season if his form continues. I get the idea that he's long understood that he's not going to be driving for them next year. It's tough you'd still expect better from him. Mercedes can wave goodbye any chance of winning the constructors if he continues in this manner.
