Religion's often the source of some great musical lyrics. Found these lyrics quite apt for the kind of conflicting ideas that surround Christmas nowadays.

God has got his phone off the hook, babe
Would he even pick up if he could
It's been a while since we saw that child
      Hanging 'round this neighbourhood
You see his mother dealing in a doorway
See Father Christmas with a begging bowl
Jesus sister's eyes are a blister
The High Street never looked so low

Sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes
I swear I can see your soul

      The Smiths.  Still Ill

      The opening verse is amazing.

I decree today that life is simply taking and not giving
England is mine, it owes me a living
But ask me why, and I'll spit in your eye
Oh, ask me why, and I'll spit in your eye
But we cannot cling to the old dreams anymore
No, we cannot cling to those dreams

Have a listen to Chris Cornell’s newest song (lyrics are from a couple of Johnny Cash’s unpublished poems), genius writing and Cornell’s delivery is absurdly haunting.

      “You Never Knew My Mind"

I know you feel the way I change, but you can't change the way I feel
Sometimes I'm a stranger to you, one of a kind
And I think someway you'll make it, though you don't know how to take it
Sometimes you're a stranger to me, one of a kind

There were times of lots of laughter
      And you felt you understood
We were carefree, open and honest
      Loving easy, kind and true
And I suppose you never doubted
That we were all together fine
You never really knew my mind
You never really knew my mind

My silence holds the secrets when I answer but don't answer
You did not see me well enough to recognize the signs
You didn't want to notice or know that it was over
I did not see you well enough to recognize the signs

And there were times of lots of laughter
      And you felt you understood
We were carefree, kind and honest
      Loving easy, kind and true
And I suppose you never doubted
That we were all together fine
Then you saw the changes painfully
And you knew, you never really knew my mind

And I suppose you never doubted
That we were all together fine
Sometimes I'm a stranger to you
And sometimes you're a stranger to me
      Sometimes, maybe all the time
You never really knew my mind
I never really knew your mind

It's the same thing night on night
      Who's wrong, baby who's right
Another fight and I slam the door on
Another battle in our dirty little war
When I look at myself I don't see
The man I wanted to be
Somewhere along the line I slipped off track
I'm caught movin' one step up and two steps back

Probably my favourite Bruce song of all time. Such a beautifully sung song.

      Just looking for a protector
God never reached out in time

One of my favourite bands & the track from train spotting 2...

      George Michael: Different Corner..

Take me back in time, maybe I can forget
Turn a different corner and we never would have met.
      Would you care?
Oh, I don't understand it for you it's a breeze
Little by little, you've brought me to my knees
      Don't you care?

      Favourite Band

      Probably my favourite track

      Midnight rockers, city slickers
      Gunmen and maniacs
All will feature on the freak show
And I can't do nothing 'bout that, no

But if you hurt what's mine
      I'll sure as hell retaliate

      Serious, infectious and dan...
      Serious, and
      Serious, infectious and dangerous

You can free the world, you can free my mind
Just as long as my baby's safe from harm tonight
You can free the world, you can free my mind
Just as long as my baby's safe from harm tonight

      Serious, infectious and dangerous
Friends and enemies, I find it's contagious
I was looking back to see if you were looking back at me
To see me looking back at you

      Lucky dippers, crazy chancers
      Seems to be moving fast
What happened to the niceties of my childhood days?
Well I can't do nothing 'bout that, no

But if you hurt what's mine
      I'll sure as hell retaliate

I was looking back to see if you were
      I was looking, I was
I was looking back to see if you were looking back at me
To see me looking back at you

You can free the world, you can free my mind
Just as long as my baby's safe from harm tonight
You can free the world, you can free my mind
Just as long as my baby's safe from harm tonight

      Serious, infectious and dangerous
Friends and enemies, I find it's contagious
And they're spreading through your system like a virus
Yes, the trouble in the end, it makes you anxious
      I was looking, I was
I was looking back to see if you were looking back at me
To see me looking back at you
I was looking back to see if you were looking back at me
To see me looking back at you

But if you hurt what's mine

Been on an Oasis binge between one session of the snooker finishing and the next one starting (which it's just about to) so here's me fave lyrics from the 20 songs I listened to.

The game is kicking off in around the park
It's twenty five a side and before it's dark
      There's gonna be a loser
And you know the next goal wins

      Round Are Way - Oasis

Why d'you need a reason to feel happy

The Girl In The Dirty Shirt - Oasis

Bound with all the weight of all the words he tried to say
Chained to all the places that he never wished to stay

      Cast No Shadow - Oasis

Do you keep the receipts for the friends that you buy

Where Did It All Go Wrong? - Oasis

Coming in a mess going out in style
      I ain't good-looking but I'm someone's child

      D'you Know What I Mean? - Oasis

And only I can see, what it means to be
Sitting here in silence on my own

      Sitting In Silence - Oasis

Maybe I don't really wanna know
      How your garden grows

      Live Forever - Oasis

It's up to us to make the best of all the things that come our way

      Masterplan - Oasis

You found your God in a paperback
You get your history from the Union Jack

      Mucky Fingers - Oasis

      So let's all make believe
That we're still friends and we like each other

Let's All Make Believe - Oasis

Your music's sh*te it keeps me up all night

      Married With Children - Oasis

My heart it skips a beat when I behold
The light that's shining through your eyes of gold

      Idler's Dream - Oasis

      I need to be myself
I can't be no one else

      Supersonic - Oasis

My body feels young but my mind is very old

Half The World Away - Oasis

I hitched a ride with my soul by the side of the road
Just as the sky turned black
I took a walk with my fame down memory lane
I never did find my way back

      Hey Now - Oasis

Some might say they don't believe in heaven
Go and tell it to the man who lives in hell

      Some Might Say - Oasis

When you're lonely and you start to hear
The little voices in your head at night
You will only sniff away the tears
So you can dance until the morning light
      At what price?

      Sunday Morning Call - Oasis

So take me away just for today

      Take Me Away - Oasis

I'm older than I wish to be

      Rockin' Chair - Oasis

True perfection has to be imperfect

      Little By Little - Oasis
