BUENOS AIRES (AFP) - Liverpool have swooped to sign Argentine midfielder Sebastian Leto from Buenos Aires team Lanus, the Argentine club´s vice-president Nicholas Russo confirmed.

Liverpool, who already boast a huge contingent of Spanish and South American players and coaching staff, have paid 3.6 million dollars for the 20-year-old.

Leto is a midfield playmaker who scored six goals in 34 appearances for Lanus last season.

"I am going to a team with a lot of history that won the Champions League two years ago," said Leto.

"I still can´t believe it. I have seen Manchester (United) matches on television and now I could end up facing them.

"It will be difficult. I don´t know what awaits me but I want to play soon. It is possible that I will have only a few chances and I must prove that I am ready.

"I am fast and there (England) the counter attack is vital."

Leto will join compatriot Gabriel Paletta at Anfield but will hope to make a greater impression.


We seen Gonzalez not being able to cut the mustard and now he's on his way. I'm not too surprised to be honest. I never thought he had the quality for the prem myself like.

Bolo Zenden, whose contract expires in the summer, has also been told he can talk to other clubs.
 
Benitez said: "I was talking with him before and I said he could talk with other teams. He knows the situation.
 
"It's clear some players will leave. We almost have an agreement with Real Betis for Mark Gonzalez."

Gonzalez is not a liverpool player didn't show any fight whats so ever, any one that thinks we need to give him more time is totally thick, we had this chap watched for a whole season, and Rafa waited to bring this guy to the club even though he was injured............. so don't tell me about waiting for it to happen we haven't got the time or patience any more we want trophies and Rafa wants them more than you and I trust me on this.......... go riddance to him....... and any one that thinks cisse needs another go then please don't make me laugh, does anyone remember the fa cup final,,, yes i know he scored but that was a volley that was 6 yards out,  remember the cup final when at the and Rafa was having a go at him about work rate and keeping the ball in the corner.................. ..... don't anyone tell me cisse is worth 14 mill its the biggest waste of money in English football................ ....

Hes gone now officially. He wasnt really up for the physical side of the Premiership. I still would of giving him untill January 08 to see how he was doing and if he was still play bad then ye sell him.

Liverpool are reportedly ready to secure first option on Real Betis starlet Juande, as part of a deal that will take Mark Gonzalez back to Spain.

Real Betis are believed to be leading the chase for the Chilean winger who has also been linked with Real Zaragoza and Real Sociedad - where he spent time on loan last year.

Sevillian sources claim that Betis are lining up a €3.5million (£2.3million) deal for Gonzalez.

Liverpool are ready to do business, but as part of the move Rafa Benitez is looking to line-up a deal for Juande.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who made the breakthrough into the Betis first at the end of last season, is seen as one of the brightest prospects in La Liga.

Juande is a defensive midfielder, a position Liverpool are currently well stocked, but Benitez is building for the future and would seemingly be more than happy with letting the youngster develop at Betis for at least another season.

Can't be selling him for under 5m.  He had a good campaign in la liga surely someone will have interest in him.

IMO don't think he was given a good enough chance, i think he would have been better in his second season.
