      Aug 10, 2009 10:27:47 am
      LFC CONFIRM WINGER SALE
Winger Adam Hammill today completed his move from Liverpool to Championship side Barnsley.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of 2008-09 at Oakwell and has now made the move permanent.

Hammill is a product of the Academy who has been cutting his teeth on loan in Scotland and the Football League for the past three years.

The Scouser was part of our 2006 FA Youth Cup winning side, scoring a sensational goal from the half-way line in the early rounds.

      Best of luck there lad.

F**k. Me. NO! NO! NO! NO! Bloody f***in hell! SO did not want

All the best Adam, but you are marrying below you. You could have done well at a promotion-chasing club.

Hope to see you play at Anfield someday.

Anybody got an idea about the fee? 1m at least?

If his chance was not to come  in the coming season why not loan him again instead of selling him,  not much difference in the fee i guess, hope we have got a buy back clause or something  because i'm sure he will come good
       anyway Good Luck Adam ,

Good luck to Hammill there but I can't help feeling disappointed by this.  Thought he was at least worth having a go in the first team during pre-season to see how he'd do.  I rate him alot higher than El Zhar and think he'd have a bigger impact in the first team squad than some of the other back up players.  Obviously Rafa saw differently so I'm probably totally wrong. :D

Fee was reported as 'a high 6 figure sum' so it's less than a million. Obviously.

Absolutely gutted by this, local lad, good prospect with talent. Why sell him without even having a look at him in the likes of the Carling Cup? Could of been a very useful squad player >:(

What is the purpose in us having a youth system? Ridiculous sale. What message is it sending out to the youth squad? Amoo and the boys must be doubting there chance of making it

It is sad not see a local talent making it through to the first team, but at the end of the day, if he's not good enough for the first team, he will be sold to another club. The thing is, if we have kept him with us and then restricted his development, that would have been unfair for him.

This decision may come back to bite us, however it's called taking risk and making decision, so let him go.

Well forget tonight and look at the bigger picture. A young winger who everywhere he's gone has scored goals. Be no harm to have kept him as an option to throw in when we needed something diffrent

I'm sure he scored at least one and it may have been a brace at the weekend as well.

One that got away? Or has he just found his level?

Wasn't there something to do with his attitude why he was sold?

For me, he's one that got away. Not world class by any stretch (the reason why we sell so many youngster too early is because they're not as good as Gerrard) but he would of done a better job on the right wing than Josemi, Kromkamp, Nunez, Pennant, El Zhar did and they all got chances on the right side of midfield while Adam was either in the reserves or on some loan spell.

He'd also of done better on the left, his better side in my opinion, than the likes of Kewell, Riera, Gonzalez, Dossena, Aurelio, Leto did. Again, they were given plenty of chances on our left while Adam wasn't. I'd rather see him coming off the bench this season than Jovanovich or Babel put it that way.

It's a shame when we lose these lads, Dalla Valle and Kacaniklic are another two who may go on to do something, and then we have the likes of Pacheco not even getting on the bench.

All a little depressing they are not even being given 10 minutes here or there.

Dalla Valle is the biggest lost, for me. He'll be a superb player and was coming along so well.

On Adam, he was clearly good enough when he was here to have a shot. He danced through the reserves as if they weren't there. I remember a game of his, i think it was against Bristol's reserves (cant remember) where no one could touch him when he had the ball.

      Delighted for him though.

My Mates a Barnsley supporter, he says hes been quality and the only criticism he has is he can be greedy and shoot when there is a better ball on. He is also resigned to the fact of losing him in January

      Bet me to it Debs

Im repeating myself over and over but its a fooking joke we let this lad go. I actually wonder what the point of having a youth system is at Liverpool as even those clearly good enough dont get a sniff. Kelly is good enough but is only covering injuries and playing cup games. Dont get me started on Pacheco. And then we sell the likes of Hammill and Nemeth. Joke

oh and add to the fact his club arent exactly the best in the division so before Im told hes at a lower level yeah he is but hes doing it week in week out against stronger sides then his own

Excellent post DLS. Our young lads have to be given a chance and a 'proper' chance at that.

The one that got away for sure.

And the horrible thing is we didn't even leard from this with the loss of Lauri and then the treatment of Pacheco.

Makes it all the more annoying when we need a decent left sided player mate.

Yeah fair enough he's playing in the a lower division and not in a particularly good side but he makes things happen for himself.  Living in Barnsley he's making a name for himself in these parts and there are a number of EPL teams following his progress.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Blackpool go in for him since he spent some time on loan there a few years back, they'll know all about him.

Yeah Blackpool seem to be the favourites Billy but when he was interviewed on our local BBC news at weekend he said he is happy where he is although his long term ambition is to play in the EPL.

Its annoying that we appear to have missed out on a decent young player but sometimes for the sake of their career you have to let them leave. He wouldn't have played anywhere near as much had he stayed and who knows, maybe the disappointment of being sold by liverpool has spurred him on???

      Fair play to the lad.

My Mates a Barnsley supporter, he says hes been quality and the only criticism he has is he can be greedy and shoot when there is a better ball on. He is also resigned to the fact of losing him in January

      This

Noticed that he can become over confident and it becomes the Adam Hammill show, but it wouldn't if he were at Liverpool amongst other great players, easily good enough for the premier league though a lower to mid table club will snap him up soon I feel.

      Blackpool Have Bid Accepted
Blackpool have had a bid accepted for Adam Hammill, skysports.com understands.

The Tangerines are looking to bolster their options in midfield and are now hopeful of concluding a deal for the Barnsley winger.

The former Liverpool trainee joined Barnsley on a permanent deal in 2009 after impressing during an initial loan spell.

Now he has emerged as one of the most exciting prospects outside the Premier League.

The 23-year-old, though, has a release clause in his contract which enables him to leave for just £500,000.

Blackpool have triggered that option and hope to beat the likes of Wolves, Birmingham and Nottingham Forest to his signature.
      http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_6660611,00.html

No surprise Prem teams are looking at this lad an no surprise Blackpool are leading the chase. They know the lads talent after the few months he spent on loan there a while back.

Wish we initiated some kind of Madrid-Getafe-esque buy back clause, would have been worth a gamble to get him back considering how cheap he is, some of his highlights for Barnsley were very promising, think he'll be a good signing for Wolves too, looks very comfortable whipping balls in from wide, seems a very technically proficient player to me.

Hope he does well at Wolves to be honest, we should never have let him go, but we did.

From the little I saw of him today, he looked pretty good to me, keen to get involved from the minute he came on, and put in some nice crosses.

Adam has joined Middlesborough on loan from Wolves

      Adam Joins Boro On Loan

BORO have swooped to sign former England U21 international midfielder Adam Hammill on loan from Wolves for the remainder of the season.

The 24-year-old started his career with hometown Liverpool without making a first team appearance.

He enjoyed loan spells with Dunfermline, Southampton, Blackpool and Barnsley before joining the Tykes permanently in 2009/10, scoring 13 goals in 78 league appearances for the South Yorkshire club.

After hitting eight goals in the first half of the 2010-11 campaign he moved to Molineux for an undisclosed fee in January 2011, signing a three-and-a-half year contract.

He has so far made 19 appearances for Wolves but only three league starts.

"Adam is capable of bringing a different ingredient to the squad and giving us something we've missed for a bit," said manager Tony Mowbray.

"He also has a bit of individuality, he's versatile enough to play in any midfield position and he creates extra competition within the squad."

Hammill was a member of the Liverpool team that won the 2006 FA Youth Cup after defeating Manchester City in the final.

Although he has played for England at U19 level and once for the U21s, he also qualifies to play for the Republic of Ireland.
