Good game that!  Well in Yossi, he was superb.  MOTM without a doubt for me and a hattrick to boot!  Thought everyone had a good game.  Clean sheet as well.  Happy days  ;D

Everyone put in a good performance today, excluding Nando.

Really good stuff played there at times, but I thought we tried sometimes to overplay it, rather than taking the shot.

Excellent result and great performance. Man of the match without a doubt has to be Yossi, Burnley players struggled to deal with him.

Most of all i bet Michael Shields loved every minute of that. It must feel good for him to see his beloved team playing their best and putting in a performance like that.

Cracking result , I said before the game I wouldnt mind winning ugly as long as we got three points, Credit to burnley for making a game of it and not parking 11 men behind the ball leaving us to win the game comfortably...fantastic game and a hatrick for Yossi, wonder what the odds were on that. Just need United and Tottenam to play out a draw and it will be the perfect day results wise barring City and Arsenals result.

Anyone having trouble with remad's goal video links in the match thread should remove this part of the link in the address bar:

      http://www."http.com//

In otherwords, remove the part before "www"

      It should work fine

How on earth was Kuyt playing badly he was one of the best players on the pitch work rate coupled with great passing and llink up play, johnson worked hard and created chances and although nando was quiet, he created oppertunities

Great game today we really bossed the game from the middle Gerrard and Lucas played well together as well as Benny on the right who in my eyes was man of the match he really excelled on the right.

Torres was off the pace today but did well to be a part of the 3rd goal but apart from that he was quiet disappointing. Johnson's defensive side was questionable today at times he was letting the winger get across him far to often solid defensive performance from Insua but going forward his crosses are quiet poor and may need to improve on that side of his game.

The substitutions were a good move giving players a rest for the game on Wednesday also when Voronin came on he was great kept the ball moving made a couple of great angled passes he was putting balls into areas that seemed impossible near the end only can be good for his confidence Ngog got in the correct positions but didn't take advantage from his chances sadly.

All in all a great performance and if we keep consistency at home this year and keep playing good football we have a real chance for the tittle this year we played really well today but i would love to see Torres come to light sooner rather than later, role on Wednesday !

How was Johnson having a bad game rubbish whoever said that and I thought Kuyt had a decent second half as well. Torres was also starting to look more dangerous as the game went on.

Thought Stevie was exceptional today also thought Benny showed what a clever player he is. Reira also gave us more balance on the left side. What was Voronin at with that finish?

I didn't say he had a bad game just that at times he let the opposition get across him far too easily i think we can all say he isn't the best DEFENDER in our team.

I never said you did someone else said the players that were playing rubbish today were taken off, Johnson was good defensively and attacking wise today.

One cross came in from his side more came in from the other side and no one is saying anything about Insua. Johnson is good defensively and outstanding offensively. F#ck all happened down his side today and people are still saying he was poor defensively, rubbish!

stevie and lucas were very strong in midfield
Torres was as little bit isolated upfront BUT opened  big spaces for kuyt and especially YOSSI

Rafa Benitez labelled Yossi Benayoun an example to the rest of his squad after the Israeli struck a hat-trick to sink Burnley on Saturday.
Dirk Kuyt was the other scorer in a deserved 4-0 win - but it was Benayoun who Benitez singled out as an example of how those on the fringes can go on to play a crucial role.

The No.15 spent the first half of last season on the peripheries but is now a central figure at Anfield.

Benitez said: "We know he's a player with quality. We have seen how good he is coming from the bench and we were talking about whether he could start or not.

"Today he was very, very good and his movement was fantastic for the team.

"During the internationals I was talking with some players about how they could change things, and it was just to work hard.

"Yossi was away but he wanted to play, and when a player wants to play it's very easy: you have to prove these things in every training session and in a game if you get the opportunity.

"Yossi is someone with experience and he knows the best way to fight for your position is doing something well on the pitch."

Despite Benayoun walking away with the match ball, Benitez believes another player was key to the 4-0 victory.

"Lucas supported and managed in the middle and kept everyone else going forward," said the Spaniard.

"For me he was the key player today. We can talk about Yossi but it was thanks to Lucas. One thing everyone told me when I came here was that if you work hard the fans are with you. They could see again today that Lucas is a worker who had quality. He can challenge in the air, can tackle and pass the ball.

"He worked so hard in different positions and allowed the other players more freedom. For me he was a very important player for us today."

On why Javier Mascherano was not in the squad, Benitez revealed the midfielder was still in South America after representing Argentina this week.

He explained: "Mascherano was not available. He still he hasn't arrived. He is coming back on Sunday. He had some problems, and our doctor was talking to their doctor.

"Now I think he's okay but he's coming back later because he had to do some tests over there.

"Don't be worried, it's not serious!"

Burnley boss Owen Coyle reserved his praise for Steven Gerrard, who operated in a deeper role alongside Lucas.

"Steven Gerrard could play at right-back and still be effective because he is a world-class player," said Coyle. "You see it on the international stage and the club stage every week. He's a real Liverpool player, I would say - though I would prefer it if he did play at right-back!"

Made up with today's result, a whacking 4-0, great stuff and a massive WELL DONE to Yossi Benayoun on his hatrick.

Lovely sunny day, lovely result too.

      I'm a happy girl.

Enjoy yourselves tonight folks and have a drink to celebrate the lads winning.

Looking forward to Football First and Match of the Day.

And on a side note, wasn't it great to see Michael Shields at the game. Nice one Michael, that result today was for you.

Loving the title of this thread!!!  ;D

Thought we started off without a real drive and passion to win today. The lack of desire to get in the box by everyone apart from Yossi, wasn't pleasing on the eye.

But I feel the determination from Yossi and Lucas to get involved, quickly began to rub off on our other players. And with about 20 mins gone, you could see we were starting to impose ourselves on the game much better.

Over the moon for Yossi to get his hat trick - not sure whether his disallowed goal should have stood?

All in all, we got stronger as the game went on and it ended with a very comfortable win for the mighty reds. Good team performance.

I shall be having a sherry or two to celebrate tonight!...

Thanks for the pic. 4-0 was a nice way to say welcome back ;D

What I liked the most today was Yossi and Kuyt's movement and understanding. That's what you get when you have intelligent players like those two.

Yossi was superb today, really proved a point to Rafa today. Johnson,Gerrard and Kuyt all had solid games.

But my praise today is saved for Lucas whose drive really got the team going today.

It was great to see Michael Shields back at Anfield.

BTW loved how Rafa made the subs with the Champions League in mind, what's the betting some papers will try and start the "rotation" lark again even though we won 4-0.

Fantastic effort today. The lads played brilliantly. I was very impressed with a lot of the one touch passing that was going on all over the pitch. We looked like one classy outfit. Nice to have Stevie back in the middle dictating the game. Well in to Yossi for his hat-trick.

Was yelling at Voronin when he first came on to get stuck in then all of a sudden he played that sublime thru ball for Yossi's hat-trick goal,  he tried it again for N'Gog who was just offside. Thought I'd just give that a mention.

The only disappointment I have with a scoreline like that is the Torres didn't get on the score sheet. Thought he was pretty average today. Debrecen better watch out  ;)

      No problem Niks.

Wow I was knackered after yesterday's win, went on to watch the Spurs one and ended up in bed at 3am! Well, what a fantastic victory I must say, although my stream was dying and my internet chose to disobey me for the day and I couldn't really watch the game properly!

Ah well, it was a lovely performance, we started to pick up the pace after 20 minutes or so, started to dominate the game and then play the ball around which was certainly quite pleasing on the eye. The first goal was a well worked move from Yossi, he turned one defender inside out and then finished with such composure and took the pressure off our team.

Then the second came, it was another Yossi shot that got spilled by Jensen which enabled Kuyt to have a tap in. Later on we ripped their defence apart in the second half with another well-worked move, and Yossi slotted it into an empty net. The fourth goal displayed our domination in the final third of the area. When Riera got the ball, there were nice interchangable passes between Gerrard, Voronin and that backheel from Yossi, before he was clear in on goal and scored his hat trick.

Made up for Yossi, on his day he showed everyone that he's capable of anything. Last season on games like these we couldn't win, but with Yossi we have that extra spark in creativity and someone to keep the ball for us in the final third of the game. He's like our Messi mind you, when Masch and Aquilani return I expect Yossi to start week in week out on the left flank already.

Special mentions for Lucas, Kuyt and Gerrard, never stopped working their arses off, Kuyt was productive as well asn hardworking, got the goal and was pleased for him. Gerrard, another inspirational performance, should have grabbed a goal or two if not for the fine save from Jensen and the post. Lucas, put in another composed and assured display, he passed the ball with more maturity and confidence, and all in all it was a solid performance from the young lad again.

Top win, those losses don't matter as long as we can pick up points against dogey sides like Bolton, Stoke, Burnley.

And lastly, its great to see Michael Shields back at Anfield!! He has a lot to catch up though, it was difficult for him to be following football in those four years :( Made up for him though. And that win was for Shields.

What a performance after the international break, I was afraid with different players coming back at different times it would affect us, just glad to get the 3 points!

      Extremely satisfying victory.

I'd happily take another couple of defeats over the course of the season, if it means we'll carry on killing off the smaller sides with such ease at Anfield. Obviously very early days, but this is the kind of performance we were too often lacking last season, and the display shown by Benayoun is exactly what we need when Torres isn't firing on all cylinders.

Reading back through the thread, a couple of people seemed deflated because of the Chavs and Mancs getting results yesterday, but I'm not too bothered about that. We need to concentrate on our games, and we're back on the right track which is the most important thing.

Well in lads, convincing stuff, hopefully the mood off the pitch will continue to improve, and, who knows, this could be the beginning of a cracking series of results:

Well done Reds and congratulations to Yossi, superb!

Didnt see the game myself but the goals were class, some individual brilliance and good team passing shown.

Very happy that we put them away so convincingly.

I hope Torres has not fallen into any sort of lull here, he was very quite for Spain hope he can get a few against Debrecen.

Just back this morning from liverpool after getting the overnight boat home to Belfast, absolutely wrecked after getting woken up at 6am in the morning  :f_steam: but of course it was all worth it after yesterdays win  ;D

Well . . what can i say, great match, fantastic weekend! Was just great to get back over and be in Anfield, always really special for me because its not often i get there. Have to say though that You'll Never Walk Alone was amazing, was quite choked up with the emotion of it all, with everyone singing together. Anyway, well the match was brilliant, pleased that Yossi got his hat trick, he deserved it, worked sooo hard the whole match and kuyt aswell, nice to see him on the score sheet too. Would have liked to see Gerrard or Torres score but we won 4-0 so I'm not complaining. Could have been a lot more but its 3 points so I'm happy.

Looking forward now to champions league on Wednesday  :)

Fair enough. He did get an assist and it was a nice weighted pass. I just thought from the moment he stepped on the pitch, he looked his old self with the lack of determination. But he done well to assist Yossi.

I was jesting about the steward - I know a steward called Andy though and he once feel over getting over the boards before half time.  ;D You should have give us a shout mate, didn't know you were going.

Great win, I heard some joker moaning about the atmosphere on the radio after the match- get a life!

The atmosphere was good where I was sitting, especially as Burnley offered nothing to the game.

Torres seems to have his head down at the moment, started after the first minute when he got clattered and got no free kick for it. Hopefully he will get it together, a goal would've sorted him out yesterday. I thought Lucas had a good game and we didn't miss Masch, albeit against Burnley but that's what you want - people able to step in and be solid. I said on Friday night, Burnley are gonna get it off someone and I hope it's us!

Great day, just a shame the Mancs won (both of em).

I was sat in the main stand (block MB) and thought the atmosphere was great.Burnley boys sung there hearts out as did the protesters outside!

Torres was awful,he was in Burnley's # 5's pocket for most of the game, went down too often and never looked happy.

      He needs a goal.

My lad loved his first game and my dad missed the second goal as he went to fetch drinks!!

I've had my doubts about Voronin, but he did look good when he came on.  Credit to Yossi.  Well done lad!

Yossi defo performed best, closely followed by Stevie and Lucas.
