Babel showed us he can do it. He looked decent in the 15 minutes he got. Wish he'd show it more often, though.

Lucas or Skrtel are my MotM. Neither of them made many mistakes and both looked good defending and tidying up.

An awful performance tonight, our passing was sloppy and we created very little against a very poor side, no-one excelled tonight. Skertel performance was head and shoulders above any other player on the pitch. Thought our set pieces were a joke.

Totally agree mate,but at least we got 3 points.

Voted for Yossi because Lucas wasn't in the poll at the time but i reckon Lucas was our best player.

This is without doubt a poor performance compared to what we are capable of but at the end of the day we got the 3 points and that is the most important thing.

We tend to always start our group stage pretty poor but game by game we get better and end up looking as though we could go all the way. Our performance will be slated the most but the other English teams were crap and scraped wins.

The crowd again were a let down, 1700 away fans making much more noise than 40 odd thousand home fans, not good enough. The players will feed of the mood from the crowd so if they are subdued the players wont play anywhere near their best, works both ways.

Very few positives to highlight but my biggest highlight was the running from Yossi, was taking players on and even done about 5 in the space of a few seconds.

I'll take the points and the Win, but it was a piss poor match. I didn't see any real fire from the team.  Their were some brief spells of action in the goal areas but other than that they seemed flat..Again!

They're missing something. I dont know what, but they just dont have the fire from the past few seasons.  Maybe its the stress of the pre-season or expectations, but I cant be the only one on here who thinks they look tired.

I has Dirk as my man of the match ,closely followed by Lucas( who in my mind is getting better every game ) ,Nando looks a bit tired i thought,Stevie G , not at his best and should have had more shots on target if not scored ! ....maybe it's just me but i think Benny plays a bit like Peter Beardsley ,same style, ..least we came through as winners ..phew !

Lucas for MOTM for me.  Thought Srktel had a decent game as well.  Yossi had made some great runs but didn't see enough of the ball.  Good game for Kuyt as well.

Someone said this was a potential banana skin of a fixture in the pre match thread, we got a win at the end of the day and another clean sheet.  It wasn't pretty but you get days like that.  A bad hair day sort of thing.

I was also disappointed in the KOP end. Maybe it was the broadcast and it just didn't come over the airwaves, but the crowd was just dead. They only chants I heard were from the Debreceni Away.

We had plenty of chances but couldn't get the ball in the back of the net. But yes in the group stage all that matters is the 3 points and we done the job without too much effort (from what I could see on the pitch). I think Aquilani will be a key addition to our lineup as he'll free up gerrard for a proper role in behind Torres. Put less pressure on Torres as well, relaxes him and also Aquilani himself will be able to cause havoc. I mean Lucas is good but we need someone who can shoot from long range, do the passing job and someone opposition defences are genuinely concerned about. If only we could've gotten Silva as well :S

Not a great performance at all but its the 3 points that we all wanted. Would have Stevie would have buried at least one of his many chances. Yossi is improving all the time but I went for Riera MOTM. Thought he looked are most dangerous player through out the night. Anyone else Stevie was going over a bit easy at times?

Yossi mom for me, he was the brightest spark in a lack lustre performance, he was the only one who filled me with any hope when he got teh ball as he was the only one one who looked enthusiastic about doing something positive with it.

Worked hard, was trying to be positive, played at a high tempo and didn't give the ball away.

Something most of the lads couldn't manage in 90 minutes.

 Johnson and Insua did okay, thought Johnson was better than Insua.

Reira did okay, he is lacking pace to be really top class. Lucas did alright he won a couple of tackles but our midfield wasn't great tonight. Looking forward to Aquiliani coming in beside Masch with Gerrard back up top with Torres.

Skertel and Carragher were solid tonight, Skertel was my man of the match. Reina made a great save in the first half shows what a great keeper he is keeping his concentration even when he is not involved.

Sorry about that Crouchinho usually spell the players right, I'm just numb after watching that. I know that there is people giving out about the crowd but I actually feel sorry for them after paying good money to see that.

Some good individual performances - Kuyt, Skrtel, Yossi, Lucas (MOTM imo)...

and Babel looked good during his run out. If only he could put together even a half like that , he'd get more playing time. But, his play was refreshingly positive. That was good to see.

And, what a lame crowd. At least it seemed that way.
