What type of LFC player past or present do you compare to.....??
      Oct 09, 2009 10:52:35 am
Im bored at work fellow posters and need a wake up and a bit of a laugh.

Now I assume most of us on here have played the game at some sort of level or are still playing. I wanted to find out what type of player you say your most like obviously not in like for like ability but in terms of trickery, pace, strength and commitment, character etc.

As I played centre back most of my days Im going to plump for Neil Ruddock...I think thats the best fit for me. I had bundles of committment and absolutely hated losing. I didnt mind taking the opponent out if it was needed and could read a game pretty well but in terms of ability on the ball....na I left that to someone else.

There must be a few on here that see themselves as a bit of a Torres or Gerrard.

Mods - if this should be posted elsewhere please move it - I put it here as its about LFC players but leave it with you as its a non serious topic.

My mates say I play similarly to Xabi Alonso because of the vision, passing ability and also able to strike from distance. :D

I'm sad to say I'm alot like Harry Kewell. :(

We're both from the same country, we play the same position (although I do play striker aswell), and sadly I also seem to have the same problem with injuries. :f_steam:

I play as a right winger, although I haven't played for a long time I'm looking to get back into the game after my exams. It has been a long time since I've played footy proper, maybe 2-3 months I've rustied a little.

I can play as a striker but my primary position is a right winger, often like to cut in and track back. Dirk Kuyt comes into mind eh :D

So yeah, my finishing is a little erratic at times, just a little like Kuyt, but in terms of hard work I think I'm there when I really do want to get involved in the game (sometimes the sun is too hot that I just stand one side and slack, a little bit of a lazy b***ard eh? ;))

Fernando Torres. Even in his Atletico days, he's always been my favourite player.
Always been a centre forward and a goalscorer with speed, plus a lot of people have always said we look alike.

But I tend to run forward and backward in games. I do try to dribble more than Xabi Alonso, though. I love scoring goals but what makes me happy the most is when a teammate scores from a pass I've made.

In terms of character, i'm definitely Carra. It comes out even on the cricket field where i explode if i think your not giving enough or just arsing around.

In terms of style i'm alot like Kuyt. I try my best every time, work hard for the team, not the quickest or trickiest player out but i have a pretty strong shot - the only difference is our finishing. I love to get it in and around the box and can find the net.

I'd have to say Bernard Diomede, because I'm sh*t :D

Seriously tho as I played right midfield the majority of the time and got a few goals from that side, I'd have to say Kuyt as I wasn't the most skilful player on the pitch but I made up for it with my hard work and will to win.

It would definetly be Danny Agger.

An almost identical body build loved playing in the centre of the defence, calm on the ball and a strong right foot shot. A mix of Carra because I am always in someone's ear when I dont think they are giving 100%.

I don't really know, some of my passed managers wanted me in the middle(Molby,McMahon,Souness)and others wanted me up front(Hunt,Rush)and yet when I played for the Eldonians my then manager Billy Kenny wanted me in the back four(Hughes,Nichol),I even played in goal a lot(Clem)so I guess I'm a utility player of no name who has boots that wants to play football or should I say wanted,"cant now to old"but can still play with both feet and show the kids an old trick or two.

Played right back mostly so I'd say Stevie Nicol or Rob Jones.
Played centre midfield when I lost the bit of pace I had but that was only to kick or mame the opposition so maybe a very poor man's Graham Souness or Steve Mc Mahon.

      John Arne Riise.

I was an attacking left back who couldn't defend :D

I had a jackhammer for a left foot though and took all the free kicks, penalties and corners.

I play with you most nights and Torres is probably the furthest player away from you as humanly possible. For you, I would suggest someone who isn't afraid to stick a tackle in, has good shot pwer as you said, but miskicks 3/4 of his shots. ;).

I would compare myself to John Arne Riise. I played in LB for my entire career (occasionally LM), scored about 5-10 goals a season and scored a few wonder goals. Also have a cool head in front of goal.

I'm deadly in the box and I haven't missed a penalty in my last 20 attempts.

So I'd say Torres and a bit of Molby/Neal. ;)

      McMahon/Souness/Gerrard (in his early days)

Box to box midfielder who likes to spread the play, chip in with a few goals and doesn't back out of a tackle. Based on me size it's probably more Jay Spearing.

I used to compare my self with dirk kuyt.
I am basically a right winger , can play infront too. I will work hard to win.
Apart from this , I can pass the ball well too. Actually that is my main ability. I love to play as a CAM.
If it was not from LFC players, I could have selected kaka or Arshavin.

I think a bit of Beardsley with his type of energy.

A bit of Molby because I think I have excellent vision with my passing. I can hit rockets from distance and can tackle hard, so you can throw in a bit of Souness and Gerrard to make the perfect cocktail  ;D

My friends for years have told me I played in a similar style to Luis Figo, low centre of gravity with turns and such and a good passer.

I'm going to have to say I try and play like Stevie. Because I seem to end up playing everywhere on the field, love getting stuck in with tackles, and defo don't afraid to take a long range pop now and again. I say "try" to be like him for a reason too :P

This is a hard one for me. So i will let use decide: I am tall striker, strong build, slow, not a great strike rate, good passing ability, not particularly skillful but i am good with the ball on the ground. A few people used to call me Young Michael Owen as i always had a Reds shirt on with his name on the back when i was 7-11 years old. More recently i have been called Torres, but i can assure you that i am nothing like Torres or Owen. I can't think if anyone.

      Mike Hooper.

I've never saved a penalty in my life either.

(Funny story. I was going to post Mike Hooper in here for a laugh on friday, so I Google Imaged 'Mike Hooper Liverpool' and ended up getting those pictures of Mathew Street and The Cavern that started the Old Liverpool Pictures thread!).

That ginger beaut still does my head in for the two sh*t goals he let in against Everton at Goodison way back in 91/92 season, dived like a lump of lard too!

When I played for Springvale city I was probably similar to a Benayoun type, playing inside right and had good dribbling skills. Once it was written in the local paper that I beat 4 players in the penalty box and calmly slotted the ball home.  I think my mum kept that article all her life and it became a family joke. She was fairly proud about it.

In later times I joined a weak club (Sth Dandenong)  and I would have to collect the ball in my own penalty box, take it all the way up the other end and score. Put bluntly, there was noone adequate enough to pass it to, and in that weaker league there was noone who could get it off me. It was all quite a laugh when I think back on it. Because of the size of the club we had only an under 14's team, with a couple of 10 year old, 11 year old  etc  kids playing in it. Only a few of us were the right age.
On the other hand we had a Ukraine kid of about 20 in the team, who had a dodgie passport. He played as a goalkeeper and he used to pull off Ray Clemence like saves, then the next minute let one go through his legs for a goal. The club was run by an old woman who used to insist everyone got a game, so we didnt win too often.
I was the only English kid in a team that had half serbs and half croats, so the parents used to turn up with wheel braces and all sorts on standby as weapons. Once when I was denied a penalty after being hacked down in the area,  one of these parents chased the referee with some intent I can tell ya. It was a right laugh when I look back on it.

John Arne Riise - played LB/LM and had a sledgehammer of a left foot and scored a few long range efforts in my time

Haha! I'd love to say Dirk, but it seems he is the number one pick in this thread. I always come off the ground tired (not because im unfit :P ) but because even playing as a striker I will run back to defense just to chase down something that could be a lost cause. In terms of goal scoring, if someone is in a better position I give it when it's possible so the assists stack up more than the goal tally. Still playing football and yet to find my major strength and my preferred position.

Probably a mixture between Babel and Alonso.

I don't have a hell of a lot of skill but I can pass accurately up to about 50 yards right now. I have vision, and I'm pretty damn fast too - also have a good shot on me.

I'd say back in the day I was a bit like Sami Hyypia. Was a class tackler, strong in the air (even though I was pretty small) and could read the game well from the back.

As soon as I went in the middle of park though, I didn't have the passing ability to do it. Though I had a good run as Left Midfield, used to cut inside alot as I have no left foot, bit like Babel in that sense!

Id say like John Arne Riise an attacking left back, i love to defend and get forward. But i feel i am better at the back.
I score a few goals to, not that great in the air, but i feel that i am quick and can get past people. My crossing is ok sometimes good sometimes terrible. I am left footed but mainly pass with my right foot for some reason.

Interesting topic I was a goal Keeper. Confident and able to stop penalties. That was then. Now? I'll probably get bruises trying to dive.

Good topic, i think i see myself as Ryan Babel. Love running at people, prefer to play on the left wing but can play on the right or down the middle, kind of like a free role. I'm very very fast (dont mean to be biased) however I dont look up and cut into much when playing on the left. Poor left foot, poor heading ability. I prefer to play 5 or 7 aside football instead of a full match. If I beat my opponent though there is no catching me and thats my strength!

I cant understand why I didn't get into the side, unless I get more time on the pitch I am gonna apply for a transfer to Real Madrid.

      This is an outrage!
