Dirk Kuyt: Liverpool FC will fight to stay in Premier League title race

DIRK KUYT believes Liverpool’s hunger to bring the Premier League trophy to Anfield will carry them back into the title fight.

The Reds are six points off the pace after losing to Chelsea before the international break and are five points worse off compared to their position after eight games last season.

It has been a fragmented start to the campaign, not helped by two international breaks, buy Kuyt feels it is important to gather a sense of perspective.

With 30 games still to be played, the Holland forward – who is due back at Melwood today following his trip to Australia – knows time is on Liverpool’s side.

And he believes the situation will be very different come Christmas time, particularly if Liverpool can kick-off a hectic period with a confidence-boosting win at Sunderland this Saturday

“I was very disappointed in the beginning that we got beaten twice. After that we picked it up and we won a couple of games in a row,” said Kuyt.

“But then we had another defeat away at Stamford Bridge at Chelsea. It was a very difficult game, but I still think we could have done something more in this game.

“It is a very tough league, it is a very long season and we still have chances. We have to keep coming as a team and concentrate on our own game and winning every upcoming game.

“I’m sure in a month or in a couple of months that we will be there. The games will be decided on small details and I think that is what happened at Chelsea.”

Kuyt will need to undergo treatment on the ankle injury he sustained in Sydney to figure in the game at the Stadium of Light.

Provided there is no reaction to the problem, Kuyt – who moved to Anfield in 2006 – should make his 158th appearance.

He has yet to win a medal in his time on Merseyside, though, and hopes he breaks his duck by getting his hands on the biggest one of them all.

“Everybody knows how much the supporters want to lift the Premier League trophy,” said Kuyt. “As a player for Liverpool, you always want to win everything, so at the start of the every season you aim to achieve as many trophies possible.

“This is a special trophy for everyone, for the supporters, for the team and for everyone that loves Liverpool, you can see that.”

Meanwhile, Reds’ skipper Steven Gerrard will undergo a fitness test at London Colney today to determine whether he can take part in England’s final Group 6 clash against Belarus.

Ah I think it would be impossible for Dirk to work anymore than he already does Alastair. :)

No one and I mean no one works harder than Dirk Kuyt.

Nice to hear some good positive talk there from Dirk, hope he's fit to play on Saturday, mind you with a long trip back from Oz, he just might be feeling a bit jetlagged.

Hopefully Dadorious put enough alcohol in him to not feel any lasting effects of his injury.

I like Dirk Kuyt, he's an example of what every Liverpool player should be.

      Well in.
