Wenger attacks Rafa criticism

Got a lot of time for Wenger but his last trophy was a while before Benitez.  And with the firm financial footing Arsenal have - he has had the opportunity to spend which he hasn't taken.

Very true, they have gotten their new stadium and all that as well and still no trophy since the week before Benitez got his first. It's always about the kids at Arsenal though, they are always an "up and coming" side in the view of the media.. been that way for 4-5 years!!

Still, good on him for saying what he did. He didn't have to say that, so well in.

WENGER: BENITEZ IS A 'SUPER MANAGER'

Arsene Wenger today labelled Rafa Benitez a 'super manager' as the Liverpool boss looks to revive our Champions League campaign in Lyon.
The Arsenal chief was quizzed on Liverpool's mixed start to the season which has left them needing victory in France tonight to get back into Group E contention.
 
Wenger pointed to Benitez's superb record in management as proof he was the right man to turn Liverpool's campaign around.
 
"Rafa Benitez is a super manager," said the Frenchman.
 
"We live in a world where democratic judgment is only in the present, and that's why it's very important to have directors who are strong enough to resist, as well to explain why they resist."

Ive only just come across this thread and I do admit I do have a lot of respect for what Arsene has done with Arsenal on a whole, nice sentiments from him though too!

Well said Arsene. I think, he is in a position to understand Rafa's situation and that's how he said something really sensible. Respect.

You would of thought Wenger would take the piss out of Rafa after them beating us. But I guess he isn't as bitter as I first thought.

I noticed before the Carling Cup game they seemed very friendly with each other.

To be honest I never liked Wenger - but this year, it's not just because of this, but in general he has seemingly become a better person/more honest manager.

He is only affable because his team are winning wait till they get beat

Good to hear him back Rafa and comes from someone who knows what he is talking about.

Even before such complimentary comments i generally thought of him as a decent bloke and good manager..  Nice wun dawg. Ayudat!!
