      Pompey hit by player embargo
South Coast club unable to sign any new players
The Premier League has confirmed that Portsmouth will be prevented from registering any new players until further notice.

Pompey have been hit with a transfer embargo and will be unable to make any new signings for the foreseeable future.

Premier League spokesman Dan Johnsonsaid: "We can confirm that there is an embargo on Portsmouth registering any new players."

Sky Sports News' chief news reporter Bryan Swanson understands the ban relates to unpaid instalments to clubs over previous transfers, in particular Lassana Diarra's move from Arsenal in January last year and Glen Johnson's switch from Chelsea.
They owe money for players they've already sold.

It's normal practice for clubs to pay transfer fees over a number of instalments.

Swanson has been told by Portsmouth officials that the club remains "relaxed" about the transfer ban and they expect the issue to be resolved as quickly as possible.

      Sorted

A decision to lift the ban will be made by the Premier League board only when it is satisfied the club is acting in accordance with its new Financial Reporting rules, imposed this season.

Swanson has been told that new owner Ali Al-Faraj is not now expected at Fratton Parkfor this weekend's league game against Wigan.

Portsmouth have announced that they are confident the embargo will be lifted shortly, once the necessary finances have been put in place.

"This concerns unpaid money to others clubs and it is in the process of being sorted," said Pompey's director of communications Gary Double.

"We are confident the situation will be sorted by the end of the week."

Down they go. Their only hope of staying up was to buy a few players who could get them somewhere.

They are up the proverbial creek, and the paddle is no-where in sight.

That is quite sad to hear from a footballing fan's point of view. Considering they sold both players for many times the amount the bought them, just goes to show how much trouble they are in.
