Didn't realise this was on TV till today - great stuff, looking forward to it even more now!

Mix of emotions last year at Fratton Park but we came out on top - Nando pretty much saved us in a 3-2 victory.

I remember N'Gog started the game and we played a strange formation to begin with, I have got the right game here haven't I?

Want a better performance this time round and more importantly the right result.

Let's have another 3 points lads.

After the finish against Wigan i expect us to come out all guns blazing, but it'll more than likely be Rafa caution.

I'd love Aquilani to start but who wouldn't?

My preferred XI for this game would be...

                                         Reina

      Johnson              Carra              Agger               Aurelio

                          Lucas                   Masch

          Gerrard                                                     Benayoun
                                   Aquilani

                                            Torres

That for me would be fantastic but i think it'll be a similar line up to the one that started against Wigan.

      2 - 0 to the Redmen.

I'm not so sure Aquilani will start.

Portsmouth are a very scrappy team in the midfield and it may be preferable to have Lucas in there.

I would like to see Alberto though of course.

Will also be interesting to see if N'Gog starts again after his impressive performance against Wigan.

      Reina
      Kelly - Carragher - Agger - Aurelio
      Johnson - Gerrard - Mascherano - Benayoun
      Torres - N'Gog

^ What I'd like to see.

This shouldn't be too hard, Pompey are underated but they cant finish for F**k thankfully. Voronin is a better finisher than Dindane which says it all.

       I'll say 3-1 to us.

Not a huge surprise bearing in mind you didn't know we were playing Portsmouth until after the Wigan game.

Anyway, let's hope we don't get the Pompey that battered Wigan 4-0. Win, draw and an unfortunate defeat away at Stamford Bridge in the last three for Pompey so they have hit something of a vein of form in recent weeks.

I remember last year we went down there and pulled off a bit of a Houdini act with Masch at right back!

I hope we are able to field our best 11 this time and get the vital 3 points. They have definetly looked hungry under Grant and were unfortunate not to get at least a point at Chelsea.

I hope the weather is not as miserable as it was last season because their ground is a bit of a cow paddock allready.

God. Just had flashbacks to that game.  That was a scary one wasn't it.

Pivotal moment on the forum that game was - the exposing of one of George Gillett's hired Rafa assassins.

I can't wait for this now.

Always the tension builds up in you immediately after a past game. Especially since we've won at Wigan now it could be a start of something new.

Pompey are the bottom side so we've got another good chance to take home the 3 points again. And also, good for confidence-building and morale-boosting.

3 points is definitely a must, however I wouldn't worry too much about scoring how many goals, because the season is still young and there's alot to play for.

A chance to notch up to wins in a row and we must not blow it.

Just two wins for us and some slip ups for the ones above us, we'll be in the top three again.

Avram Grant taking over will make this match much tougher than i thought it would be a month ago. I really hope the Liverpool that showed up against Arsenal in the first half is out on the pitch and we can get 2 wins in a row.

If we don't win, we will be back in to a lull.

Avram Grant was a former manager of Benayoun.

BTW, next goal in the league is number 500 which sets a new record to how fast the league got there in the season.

I bet on Yossi for scoring the 500th goal.

Just hoping that Johnson will be fit - he got a bit more to offer on the offensive part than Carra ;)

I'd go with that, on paper it looks a very strong attacking lineup,2 strikers for Johnson to whip some good crosses into,i could not see that team not scoring at least 3 goals,Rafa if your reading this there is your team for pompey!

Shouldn't be any major difficulties for us tomorrow. I think Portsmouth will go down this season even though there looking abit more of a team now under Grant.

Another must win for the reds, can't afford any more slip ups and no disrespect to Pompy but these are the teams we should be beating by 3 or 4.

Would happily settle for a last minute Lucas pee roller to win 1-0 though.

At least Kelly isn't on there, will be good to have Riera back after Pompey, Glen will shake it off but I doubt in time, El Zhar probs took a little knock in his return but he's looking in good spirit when he plays and Babel must have been worse than we thought so he'll be back on the bench soon.

I can see this being a pretty good game, watching Portsmouth against Chelsea the other night Grant has got them trying to play football, so I would not expect them to park the proverbial bus, even more so them being at home.

I can see quite an open game with pretty much end to end football here with us riding out the winners in a 3-1 victory.

Given the shakiness of our defence this season I would in NO WAY play with just 3 at the back, even using Johnson and Benayoun as wingbacks is pointless since neither of them can defend :D

Given the shakiness of our defence this season I would in NO WAY play with just 3 at the back, even using Johnson and Benayoun as wingbacks is pointless since neither of them can defend :D

We've had 4 behind and we still conceded, we can try to press for attack and bang in more goals.

Johnson and Benny cant defend? you wearing glasses?
And playing RAFA in goal is just asking for trouble :D

      Sorry I meant Reina. ;D  ;D

True though, Johnson has come on a bit but his attacking play is far better than his defending. Benayoun isn't in the side for his defensive qualities really is he?

      The view from Pompey

Ahead of Saturday's trip to Fratton Park we speak to Portsmouth fan Colin Roberts for his pre-match views.

      How's the new gaffer doing?

Not bad, not bad. We're always keen to get behind our staff, sometimes blindly and in the face of what is widely perceived to be terrible form (see: Tony Adams, Paul Hart). Avram's doing a fairly good job with thoroughly limited resources and under constant and repetitive press speculation about what is actually going on behind the scenes.

How will the manager play it?

We set up almost identically at the moment (injuries and lack of quality playing staff dictates as much) so expect Boateng and O'Hara to do their best to link up with Dindane up top and some stern defending from Kaboul - a player who's really coming into his own right now; thriving off the pressure it would appear.

      Likely team news?

Well, it looks like Papa Bouba Diop is back after getting ten minutes or so at Sunderland last weekend, so I'm thinking he'll figure down the middle in some way, if not from the start. Ex-Anfield full back Steve Finnan has stayed fit for a few games now, so you'll be seeing him more than likely.

      Players we need to watch?

Kevin Prince Boateng has been going from strength to strength, linking play nicely and most importantly getting in some quality positions. Jamie O'Hara, despite being on loan from that two-bit North London club, is playing with so much heart and passion for the cause, it's difficult not to love him. Kanu will no doubt pop on for a while and make it difficult for the Liverpool defence to steal the ball back and in Dindane we've got an increasing nuisance of a striker. Nuisance to the opposition that is. Well, most of the time.

      Weaknesses?

I can't say Tal Ben-Haim ever fills me with a great deal of confidence when defending set pieces or whilst he's on the ball. Despite what I've said above, Aruna Dindane does have a wee habit of fluffing his lines when it matters most too. He's trying his hardest to get over that though.

If you were giving the pre-match teamtalk what would you say?

"Listen lads, everyone up and down the country knows you're playing some great football every week. You're playing your socks off for scant reward and now it looks like some luck is going our way, just go out there give me more of the same." Then I'd give them all a hug and promise them they're actually getting paid that week.

Who do you rate on our side?

If I said "Reina, Carragher, Gerrard and Torres" it would be a little predictable, eh? I mean, obviously you've got a cracking base of a team there, but there's are two players who I've enjoyed watching for Liverpool that maybe don't get as much credit as your Anglo-Spaniard spine: Yossi Benayoun and David N'Gog. The former works incredibly hard and occasionally pulls some treats out of his bag, the latter seems to be coming of age rapidly and is going from a bit of a questionable replacement for Torres to a genuinely decent option. Arguing about how to pronounce his surname is just a bonus.

What kind of reception will Glen Johnson get?

A very warm reception. He was voted player of the season last time around for a reason and I don't think anybody begrudges his move to Merseyside. We like to feel we made him a bit down at Fratton Park. I certainly believe without his spell in our FA Cup winning side and the Premier League season that accompanied it, he'd not be looking at a starting place in England's World Cup side for South Africa next year.

What do Pompey fans want for Christmas?

Answers. We want to know what the hell is going on with our beloved club and why on earth our players aren't being paid on time. We want to know if come January we're going to be bringing in players or selling up again. We want at least a hint if Ali Al-Faraj actually has any money or if he's another total chancer like Al-Fahim was. Any kind of stability would be welcomed around about now; I know things aren't exactly a barrel of laughs for you lot at the moment either. Maybe we can spend the day at Fratton Park sobbing. Actually on second thoughts, let's just get drunk and sing Christmas Carols.

What's the score going to be?

2-2. Dindane, Boateng. Torres (2). Everyone will say concentrate on two dropped points for you and ignore the fact that we got a decent result against a much better side.

      http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/features/the-view-from-pompey-1

      Well, that's his take. I say F**k that, 5-0. ;)

Nice little read though that actually.

      Edit: I meant 0-5!  ;D

I'd settle for a 2-0 win, I'd love to go to Pompey and hit 6 past them with style and flair but the vital 3 points are all important ,a scrappy win will suffice with no injuries ,also like to see Aquilani start or at least play 75 % of the game ,thought his overhead kick was gonna go in against Wigan ,my back four ? Johnson,Carra,Agger,Aurelio, two centre backs who stop people and two attack minded wingbacks .

Hoping we can get another win and should play with a bit more confidence after win against Wigan.Like to see Torres and Aquilani start and to take the game to them and put them on the back foot from the off.

Snow may disrupt many people’s weekends, but Pompey and Liverpool fans can rest assured.

The groundsmen at Fratton Park, led by Bob Jones, were well prepared for the freezing temperatures – and snowy conditions.

Frost covers were laid over the turf on Wednesday afternoon, once the pitch had been marked, and then the water-proof covers that make up the inflatable dome were added in the evening.

The snow was swept from the upper covers this morning and, with temperatures of over minus 4°C being predicted overnight tonight, heaters are due to be turned on and the dome inflated later today to protect the pitch ahead of the big match against Liverpool on Saturday.

Lucius Peart, head of operations, said: “The pitch is in perfect condition for our match on Saturday.

“We took all the necessary precautions earlier this week and we will now be keeping the pitch warm and ready for the game.

“There is no risk of the game not going ahead at this stage.”

      Kick-off for Saturday’s match is 12.45pm.

This is certainly a big match....Yes, I know its Pompey, Last in the table, relegation fodder.  But (2) things will happen  Liverpool will spank the sh*t out of them 4-0,5-0,5-1,6-1 etc.. Which show us that we are built solid and are top 4 material. However a  2-1, 3-2, 1-0. or draw or GOD FORBID loss.

Will just destroy this team. Not just in the press and media and make for a nice fat target for the haters and band wagon fans, but it could sink the entire season.  I think its that Important.  We need to DESTROY Pompey and do it convincingly from 0:01 all the way to the 90+ mark.

3 points are just sitting their. Lets take it and continue our return and get this sh*t rolling.. This season is just a mess for everyone. No dominating invincible team has come out. Chelsea, Man u, Arsenal all have shown that they can be beat with solid 90 min of play. If we do that from this point forward, we can get back too top 4 and higher.  Start using Aqualiani, F**k Kuyt and Lucas, bring on Ngog and Torres and lets change it up and start winning.

      GO REDS!.....YNWA....IRWT

i think this is going to be a lot tougher than people think. Pompey should have been ahead after the first 45 against Utd and held Chelsea level
til the latter stages on Wed. We need to put in a very good 90 mins to win this.

Agree this match will be a lot tougher than it maybe would have been a few weeks ago. Pompy have picked up a bit and no doubt they will cram the midfield and play one up front like they did at Chelsea. Still think we will win 2-0, Torres has looked awesome last couple weeks.  Think Rafa will go for

                   Reina
      Carra Skrtel Agger Aurelio
            Lucas Masch
      Kuyt                  Benny

Their position in the League belies the fact that Pompey are handy enough in attack and okay in mid-field; it's at the back they're sh*te.

A four, four two that keeps their backs under pressure seems to reap most reward. Much as i'd like to see it, I doubt we'll go with that formation and our midfield haven't been supporting the lone striker (too often) of late, so it may be tight enough.

A win by the odd goal will do. 'mon the Reds!  :)

Would like to see Aquilani start today, maybe alongside Gerrard in midfield with Kuyt and Torres up top. Go all out for it, I think we'll have too much for Pompey if we play our two creative midfielders, I don't think Masch is needed today tbh.
