Who would be your future captain after Gerrard?
      Dec 18, 2009 08:09:08 pm
I heard gerrard speaking about how he dont know how long he has left as captian of the team, can you see him still playing if he isnt? like sami.

I was thinking about this and wondered who would be the replacement? obviously Carragher would be as he is the vice captian but then he is in his advancing years like Sami was when he got replaced, dont think Torres should get the job! maybe Mascherano? or Reina?

Who would you like to see replace Gerrard?

Not sure we should be discussing this when Gerrard has about 3/4/5 years left in him yet.

For me i would like the replacement to be Reina or Mascherano as they both have a never die attitude, also i think Gerrard when getting older could play a more defensive role as captain or not.

I haven't heard this interview and you haven't posted a link or said where you heard it???

Though don't know why you think Torres shouldn't get the armband but Masch should when Masch isn't exactly pushing for a new contract or said anything to end rumours about him leaving, unlike Nando who is constantly saying he wants to stay for a long time.

But anyway, not happening, Gerrard will be captain for a long time yet so pointless topic IMO :-\

There is no player in this team who can replace the Skipper. As long as Steven plays he will remain the Skipper. There is no doubt about that.

Because Torres does not want to have the pressure on him, in Spain once he became captain he said he felt like everything was relying on him and he felt suffocated.

But if Mascherano stays and shows loyalty I think he would be a perfect candidate, Pepe also.

Stevie's gonna be Captain for a few more years yet, but one person that I think could be in the running eventually will be Daniel Agger.

Stevie G has 5 years left in him i think at this level ,his game noticably improved when he became captain and if he should relinquish this position ( Rafa would never take it off him ) he would be a lesser player imo.

I know but I was just saying I can't understand why he would choose Masch over Nando (though it will never be the case).

Anyway if Gerrard was no longer skipper, and Carra wasn't given the job then it would go to Kuyt because when them 2 haven't played it has been Kuyt who was given the armband.

If we were to change, I'd hand it straight to Pepe without question. Has shown the loyalty that I have never seen in a foreign player ever.

But Gerrard will be captain for awhile yet, so it doesn't matter.

Think it would be out of the question for Mascherano. He has temper issues but that goes in line with his game, so I don't think it would help his game adding the responsibility on his shoulders.

It's pretty tough at the moment to think of a player who stands out, because lets face it, there isn't many leaders on our pitch when you take out Gerrard and Carragher.

I'd hate to give Torres the armband as he had it with Atletico and some would say that hampered his game a bit. A player like him has to be free and express himself naturally without thought.

      Very good question this actually.

Possibly Agger like MsG says. That's the only player who springs to my mind at the moment.

      Reina.

Passionate, loves the club, can see the game unfolding in front of him, and has good communication skills. I would also consider him a Scouser so IMO he fits the bill to perfection when Gerrard dies retires.

I would go for Reina,as his passion for the game and for this club would give the rest of the squad something to look up to.He seems to have that never say die attitude which is what we would need after Stevie.

If Pacheco dosen't turn into a regular starter after Gerrard retires then Pepe is my 2nd choice.  ;D

      Martin Kelly.

Due to the fact that Stevie has at least four years left in him by the time he does hang up his boots Kelly should be a regular in this side and ready to take the mantle, hopefully as a centre half.

Pepe Reina..He's already an outstanding Field General.

I hope Stevie has more than 5 years left in him!
