It's true that we're softer nowadays, the standard of living, health care and so on has improved since the 1940's. Improvements in technology will always make life easier.
Thing is though, the people who were living in the 40's didn't know what life would be like for us now, maybe they went around saying how soft they all were compared to their grandparents brought up in the 19th Century!
Their grandparents probably moaned about how soft they were too, life was so much easier since the Romans came along with their irrigation techniques, and aquaducts making farming and personal hygiene much better!
Whilst I agree we're getting softer, we can't help but be a product of our environment! We're going to keep on getting softer, as long as there are Japenese technicians out there thinking of ways to make life easier!
In 50 years they'll be saying how hard we were at the turn of the century, so bask in the thought of your future tough appearance!
