Steven Gerrard slams rumours as 'daft' and says he is not leaving LiverpoolSteven Gerrard has moved to dispel rumours of a rift between him and Rafael BenĂtez, insisting he has ânever had a problemâ with his Spanish manager, and that suggestions that he is preparing to quit the club are âunfoundedâ.

BenĂtez has consistently dismissed the idea that Gerrard confronted his assistant, Mauricio Pellegrino, at half-time in the FA Cup defeat by Reading. His denials had failed to quash speculation that the England international may be ready to move on, however, after seeing Liverpool fail to capitalise on last seasonâs second place and mount a real title challenge.
Gerrard, though, has described such talk as âdaftâ and the product of âunbelievable imaginationâ, and remains adamant that his only focus is expediting his recovery from the hamstring injury picked up against the Championship side.
âIâve heard about a dozen versions of the same rumour and theyâre all as daft as each other,â Gerrard said. âIâd love to know who comes up with this kind of stuff because they must have an unbelievable imagination.
âNothing happened. That is an absolute fact. If anyone thinks this nonsense unsettles either me or the club theyâre mistaken. If anything it has brought everyone even closer together because weâve all had a good laugh about it.
âIn the time since he has been here I have never had a problem with the manager or his staff, and certainly not at half-time in the Reading game when I was actually receiving treatment for the injury Iâd picked up during the first half.
âAll the stories about me leaving are unfounded. The fans can be assured that Iâm doing all I can to get back to top form and help Liverpool finish the season on a high.â
That task would be made easier should Liverpool, without Gerrard or Fernando Torres, avenge their opening-day defeat at White Hart Lane when Tottenham visit Anfield on Wednesday night.

Hopefully that quietens the rumors a bit, and hopefully he means every word as well
